Inflation Stacks ⬆⬆⬆⬆⬆

A visual on what happens when inflation adds up over a few short years?

A 3%, 4% or 5% rise each year may not look too bad, but when it adds up year after year after year .. it is bad! (unless of course we're all earning more income - which we're not)

Cumulative inflation in Australia since 2020 is ~23.69%, based on Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) consumer price index data.

1️⃣ Purchasing Power: $100 in 2020 has the same buying power as $123.69 today (an increase of $23.69).
2️⃣ Average Inflation Rate: Prices have risen by an average of 3.61% per year between 2020 and 2026.
3️⃣ Value Loss: The Australian dollar has lost roughly 19.2% of its purchasing power over this period.

That's why the delicious pie at my local bakery has increased from $5.00 to $7.00 (well, that and the recent surcharge changes, too...)

We all get to have a part in this - do our best not to be fooled by marketing that makes us feel like we NEED to buy something rather than just WANT it!! (Government I'm looking at YOU)

Talk to any broker .. the words "private school fees" can 💣 blow up borrowing power!

😱 Especially where there are 2 or 3 kids..

BUT - ALL IS NOT LOST!

There are a few good lender policies regarding this large expense.

One awesome lender has a common-sense policy for private school fees, and will EXCLUDE them from ongoing expenses if we can meet any of these:

1. The borrowers have sufficient cash in bank account to cover the fees; or
2. The loan will provide cash out of sufficient cash to cover the fees; or
3. There is immediate family, often grandparents, who pay the fees.

This week we used this niche policy once again with success - this meant our beautiful client is able to buy their dream home - they've been saving for 10 years!!

"NAB TO SLASH 2500 JOBS OVER THE NEXT YEAR"

- Is 6% of the total workforce a lot? This is one job out of every 16 jobs gone. Maybe this is a lot and maybe it's a little?
- Is the economy in trouble?

👩‍🏫 Sometimes, boards and shareholders agree to merge with other big companies in their infinite wisdom.

🏦 Most recently, ANZ completed a $4.9 billion acquisition of Suncorp Bank in July 2024, bringing roughly 3,000 staff and 1.2 million customers into ANZ. On 7 September 2026 Suncorp told customers and brokers Suncorp will change to ANZ by June 2027, retiring the Suncorp brand completely.

If you have an existing Mortgage with Suncorp, it's ideal you chat to your broker ASAP about the change, including being forced into an ANZ product with different features, and the forced change in repayment amount (higher in most cases).

💡 Give a Truly Finance Awesome Mortgage Broker a call to discuss your situation. You were probably not recommended an ANZ loan when you were recommended a Suncorp loan so it makes total sense to review.
