If you’re self-employed, you can still benefit from KiwiSaver, but it works a little differently.

Because you don’t have an employer, you do not receive employer contributions. Instead, you choose how much to contribute and when. This flexibility can be helpful if your income changes throughout the year.

You are also still eligible to receive up to $260.72 in Government contributions. You’ll need to have contributed at least $1,042.86 into your account by 30 June each year (and be earning less than $180,000 per annum)*.
