One of the most common things people tell us is

"I've heard of halal finance, but I don't actually know what it is."

And honestly, that's completely understandable.

Financial literacy is not something commonly discussed in our communities and even more rarely from an Islamic perspective.

At its core, halal finance is about ensuring financial transactions are conducted in a way that aligns with Islamic principles. This includes avoiding interest (riba), excessive uncertainty (gharar), and investments in prohibited industries, while promoting fairness, transparency, and the sharing of risk and reward.

But halal finance is much more than simply "interest-free." It offers an alternative approach to managing money, investing, home ownership, and building wealth.

That's why education is such an important part of what we're building at Nashrr. We want to make halal finance easier to understand, more accessible, and relevant to everyday life.

We graduated from Fintech Lab 2026 🎉

The Nashrr team was in Wellington for the Fintech Festival 2026, Creative HQ's closing showcase for this year's cohort. We pitched Nashrr to founders, investors, industry partners, and curious Wellingtonians who had never heard of halal finance before.

The response was genuinely moving. Interest came from every corner of the room, regardless of background. That tells us something important: the case for interest-free, ethical finance doesn't stop at the door of any one community. A better way to do finance is a conversation New Zealand is ready to have.

This also marks the end of Fintech Lab — 12 intensive weeks of workshops, mentoring, coaching, and investor readiness sessions. We compressed what could have taken a year into a quarter.

But the most important thing we carried into every room this week? The knowledge that there is a community that has been waiting for this for a long time. The reason we are building this.

What a weekend.

We had the privilege of speaking with so many of you at Hamilton's NZ Eid Day—and the energy was incredible. It's one thing to believe in what you're building. It's another thing to see the community just as enthusiastic when they hear about it.

So many Kiwi Muslims have quietly given up on the idea of owning a home here in Aotearoa. What gives us hope is the look on people's faces when they realise another way is just around the corner.

The response has been phenomenal. We had to upgrade our survey platform just to keep up with the volume, and our waitlist is growing faster than we imagined.

This tells us our community is ready.
