I like to fight fair.

But I do have a few unfair advantages when it comes to doing your finance.

I don’t have monthly targets telling me that your perfectly sensible decision to wait is inconvenient.

I own the business, so I understand that one transaction means nothing compared to a long-term working relationship.

And because I haven’t spent years burning lenders, I can still pick up the phone and have a productive conversation when your application needs one.

Most importantly, I don’t need to f**k people over to get paid.

I can explain the options honestly, tell you when something’s a bad idea and still sleep comfortably at night.

It’s a surprisingly effective business model.

Look… someone’s gotta say it.

Social media has convinced people that looking successful is nearly as important as actually being successful.

The holiday goes on the credit card.

The AMG lives in a rented carport.

And the toy I said you could technically get approved for suddenly becomes a “reward for all the hard work.”

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying your money.

But if the decision only makes sense once you post it online, it probably doesn’t make much sense at all.

Thrivin’ and survivin’ might rhyme—but eventually, the numbers stop playing along.

Everyone grows up eventually.

Some just microwave fewer spoons in the process.

A $10.99 credit check can prevent a five-year mistake.

We pull a full Equifax report before every application—not after it’s already been submitted to the wrong lender.

It helps us understand the client’s credit history, choose an appropriate lender and avoid unnecessary enquiries sitting on their file for the next five years.

Is it our job to police the entire finance industry?

No. I’m not Batman, and Christian’s definitely not Robin.

10.99% vs 15.95%.

Which loan do you think was cheaper?

The 10.99% option came with $3,205 in fees.

The 15.95% option came with $1,997 in fees—and the monthly repayment was still $6 cheaper.

That’s a $1,208 difference in fees, despite the higher advertised rate.

Oh—and he wasn’t actually eligible for the 10.99% loan anyway. It had already been declined due to lender policy.

This is why comparing interest rates alone can be completely misleading—especially on smaller loans over shorter terms.

Compare the actual monthly repayment, including the monthly account-keeping fee.

Because the lowest rate doesn’t always mean the lowest cost.

And an advertised rate you can’t qualify for isn’t much of a deal at all.

“Offsetting my tax.”

“I’m paying for it with pre-tax income.”

Everyone sounds like a financial genius at a BBQ.

But if the explanation stops at the tax benefit, you haven’t had the finance explained properly.

Novated leasing can suit some people—but you need to understand the lender, residual, fees, total cost and what happens if you change jobs, change cars or want out early.

When I explain the whole structure, most people I speak with choose a standard loan instead.

And the ones who don’t…

Need to watch Tropic Thunder.

I don’t care which option sounds smartest at the BBQ. I care which one actually leaves you better off.
