No one goes into a relationship expecting it to end.
But when a separation does happen, suddenly having to make financial decisions on your own can feel incredibly overwhelming.
Where is the money? What bills need to be paid? What debts do we have? Can I afford to stay in the house? What can I borrow on my own?
This is why I talk so much about financial independence and financial awareness.
It doesn’t mean you shouldn’t combine finances with your partner.
It means staying involved.
Know what you own. Know what you owe. Understand your household expenses. Have access to your accounts. Build your own financial knowledge.
Because if life changes unexpectedly, you don’t want to be learning everything about your finances for the first time while also dealing with everything else that comes with a separation.
Financial independence is about having knowledge, confidence and choices, whatever life looks like. ❤️
