Nelson Says…
I’m learning that “sit” and “stay” are very important.
Apparently, that’s good advice for puppies, but not necessarily for home loans.
If you’ve been sitting with the same lender and staying on the same rate for years, it might be time for a check-up.
A home loan review can confirm whether your current rate and loan are still working for you, or whether there may be a better option available.
Send Kath a message if you’d like her to take a look.
She’ll do the checking. I’ll supervise.

If you’re new here, you should probably know who’s really in charge.

Meet Nelson, our Chief Barketing Officer.

His responsibilities include attracting attention, supervising the office and reminding everyone when it’s time for a snack. His home loan knowledge is still developing, but his social media skills are already impressive.

Then there’s me, Kath.

I’m the mortgage broker and owner of My Mortgage Hacks. Before becoming a broker, I spent more than 25 years working in credit management and debt collection.

Now I use that experience to help people understand their options, compare lenders and make confident decisions about their home loans, without the jargon or pressure.

Nelson had his puppy check-up this week and got a clean bill of health.
With the RBA increasing the cash rate by 0.25% this week, bringing it to 4.60%, he thinks home loans deserve a check-up too.
When did you last check your interest rate? Even if your lender hasn’t passed on the increase yet, it’s worth finding out whether they can offer you a better rate or whether refinancing could improve your position.
Send me a message with your lender and current interest rate, and I’ll let you know whether it looks competitive.
Nelson’s check-up went well. Now it’s your loan’s turn.

Feel like your bank is hiding from you?
Nelson says it might be time to stop waiting for them to make the first move and sniff out whether there’s a better deal available.
If you’ve had the same home loan for a while, don’t assume your lender will automatically offer you a better rate. Sometimes all it takes is asking for a pricing review. If they won’t move, you can compare the cost of staying against the potential savings of refinancing.
A lower rate isn’t always enough reason to change lenders. Fees, loan features, cashback offers and the overall structure all need to be considered.

Nelson has taken on the very important role of Chief Barketing Officer.
His current responsibilities include supervising Zoom calls, greeting clients, attracting attention on social media and negotiating the daily treat allowance.
He’s still learning the finer details of home loans, but we’re working on a new “Nelson Says” series where he’ll help explain some of the things home buyers and homeowners should know.
I suspect he may become the most popular member of the team.
