There was a real buzz in the room when Brighter Super hosted the Queensland Futures Institute’s NextGen Finance Network earlier this week 💡

The event brought together emerging professionals, university students and established leaders to make new connections and explore the opportunities shaping Queensland’s financial services sector.

David Koch AM ‘Kochie’, Brighter Super’s retirement advocate, opened the discussion by sharing his own career journey from auditor to economic journalist before leading a panel with Brighter Super CEO Kate Farrar, Patrick Christiansen from QIC and Tim Helyar from State Street.

Together, they explored Queensland’s evolving financial services ecosystem, the opportunities ahead for those entering the industry and the importance of creating long-term value for Queenslanders 🌟

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the conversation. Events like these help foster connections, collaboration and the development of future leaders across our industry.

Your super balance is one number. But there’s a lot that goes into it.

How your super is invested can influence how your balance moves over time, which is why it’s worth understanding what’s happening beyond the number you see 📊

Host David ‘Kochie’ Koch is joined by Brighter Super Chief Investment Officer Damien Webb in the latest episode of In the Hammock to explain how super investing works, from different types of investments to balancing risk and thinking long term.

It takes years to build your super. Protecting it starts with knowing how scammers operate.

Scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated. They may pretend to be from your super fund, bank, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) or another trusted organisation.

This Scams Awareness Week, 24 to 28 August remember three simple steps:

🚫 Stop before acting
✔ Check the person or communication is genuine
🛡️️Protect your personal information

Be cautious if someone:
👉 Pressures you to act immediately
👉 Promises guaranteed or unusually high investment returns
👉 Offers to help you access your super early
👉 Asks for your password, verification code or myGov details

If something does not feel right, take a moment to verify the request before sharing information or taking action.

Brighter Super was proud to sponsor yesterday’s QFI Annual Regions Summit in Brisbane, bringing together leaders from business, government and regional communities to discuss Queensland’s Regions 2060: Investment, Growth and Opportunity and the opportunities and challenges shaping our state’s future. It was a pleasure to welcome Hon. David Janetizki MP alongside the Brighter Super team and other industry leaders.

A highlight of the event was a fireside discussion facilitated by Brighter Super CEO Kate Farrar with Reserve Bank of Australia Deputy Governor Andrew Hauser, who shared valuable perspectives on the outlook for inflation, interest rates, Queensland’s resilient demand, strong population growth and economic dynamism. Andrew also spoke candidly about the capacity pressures accompanying this growth, particularly across housing, infrastructure and workforce availability. A video recording of the fireside chat is available on RBA’s website 👉https://www.rba.gov.au/speeches/2026/sp-dg-2026-08-19.html

The Summit also featured a dynamic panel of leaders from , , , the and , exploring infrastructure investment, workforce capacity, industry diversification, attracting private capital and building economic resilience.

In his vote of thanks, Brighter Super Director Cameron O’Neil reflected that Queensland’s future will be built in the regions - not only through infrastructure, investment and industry, but through people having the confidence to build their lives and retirements in the communities they call home.

Our connection to regional Queensland is deep and enduring. More than 85 per cent of our funds under management belong to Queenslanders, our super specialists support members and employers across the state, and through our Queensland Investment Strategy we are committing an additional $500 million to new Queensland assets that meet our investment criteria and target strong long-term returns for members.

Thank you to QFI for bringing together such a strong group of leaders and facilitating an important conversation about the future prosperity of regional Queensland 🤝

Retirement confidence has taken a sharp turn, with new Brighter Super research showing Australians are significantly less confident about retirement than they were just six months ago.

Our 2025–26 State of Retirement Report found national retirement confidence fell from 60% to 47%, highlighting how quickly sentiment can shift with changing economic conditions.

"This report reinforces how quickly sentiment can shift with changing economic conditions, and the need to focus on long-term preparedness rather than short-term confidence," said Brighter Super CEO Kate Farrar.

The report also found Queensland continues to outperform the national average, while Brighter Super members are even more confident and prepared for retirement. Importantly, the research shows Australians who plan early are nearly twice as likely to enjoy a comfortable retirement.
