With over 30 years of experience, we have found that most Americans have little or no plan or “strategy” for their financial future.

Our goal at MasterPlan Retirement Consultants is to design a holistic plan that helps identify ways to maximize your retirement income so you may not have to worry about outliving your money. Yes, they may contribute to a 401k at work, and they may track their spending or their debt, but that is usually the extent of it. Here at MasterPlan Retirement Consultants, we help individuals, couples and families design a road map to and through retirement, researching and recommending the tools to complete their strategy. We also investigate any dangers that may put your financial plan at risk and help you choose the method or methods to minimize these discovered risks.

October is here, and that means it is officially the season of fall festivities. Halloween, arguably one of the largest fall festivities, is right around the corner, and we have one very important question on our minds: Which traditional fall sweet treat is your go-to favorite?

🍎 Vote caramel apple

🥧 Vote pumpkin pie

Both are fall classics, both have their devoted fans, and both deserve a spot at the table. But which one gets your vote?

Drop your pick in the comments. We are curious to see which treat takes the win this month!

Open enrollment only comes around once a year and it's easy to click through it on autopilot. These five questions can help you catch changes and opportunities before your elections lock in for the year.
1. Costs and rules change every year. Read your new benefits summary and don't assume last year's plan works the same.
2. Update coverage for marriage, kids, or new health needs.
3. Look at last year's spending. Set a realistic contribution amount.
4. Use 401(k) matches, wellness perks, and commuter benefits.
5. Life insurance, retirement accounts, and HSAs all have their own beneficiary designations, separate from your will. Open enrollment is a natural checkpoint to confirm these are current.
If you found a gap, a benefit you're not using, or a change you're not sure how to handle, that's exactly what we're here for.

We’ve explored some of the most common life insurance myths—and the reality is simple: protection is often more accessible and more personal than people expect.

Whether you’re building a family, managing a mortgage, supporting a business, planning your legacy, or simply preparing for the unexpected, life insurance can help create confidence for the people and goals that matter most.

The best next step is a conversation about your unique needs. Let’s help you separate myth from fact and find coverage that fits your life.

Top Life Insurance Myths #5: “Life insurance is only for people with dependents.”

Protecting dependents is one common reason to have life insurance, but it’s far from the only one. Even if you’re single or don’t have children, coverage may still play an important role in your financial plan.

It can help address final expenses, co-signed debt, business obligations, future insurability, or legacy and charitable goals.

The reality: the right coverage depends on your goals, your obligations, and what you want to leave behind—not just your family status. You may have needs worth considering today.

Top Life Insurance Myths #4: “Stay-at-home spouses don’t need coverage.”

A stay-at-home parent may not earn a traditional paycheck, but their contributions carry meaningful financial value. Childcare, household management, meal preparation, transportation, and countless daily responsibilities all help keep a household running.

If that support were suddenly unavailable, the working spouse could face substantial new expenses—from childcare and housekeeping to transportation and more.

The reality: coverage decisions should reflect the full contribution of every member of the household, not just income. If replacing those services would strain your family’s budget, life insurance can be an important part of your protection plan.

Top Life Insurance Myths #3: “My employer’s coverage is enough.”

Group life insurance through your employer can be a valuable benefit, but it may not be sufficient on its own. Workplace coverage often falls short once you consider a mortgage, outstanding debt, future education expenses, and long-term income replacement.

There’s another important consideration: employer-sponsored coverage may not follow you if you change jobs, are laid off, or retire.

The reality: employer coverage can be a helpful starting point, not the entire plan. Consider whether your family would still be protected if that coverage went away unexpectedly.

Top Life Insurance Myths #2 : “I’m young and healthy. I don’t need it yet.”

Youth and good health can be among the strongest reasons to consider life insurance now—not later. Rates are generally based on your age and health when you apply, so waiting may mean paying more for similar coverage.

Health can also change unexpectedly. Applying while you’re healthy can help protect your insurability and may give you access to more favorable rates.

The reality: the best time to explore life insurance is before you need it. If you have loved ones who depend on you, a mortgage, or years of income ahead, it may be worth getting a personalized quote today.

September is Life Insurance Awareness Month. Follow along as we delve into Life Insurance Myths vs. Facts!

Myth #1 — “Life insurance is too expensive.”

Cost is one of the biggest reasons people put off getting coverage. But what many people expect to pay and what coverage may actually cost can be very different.

For many healthy adults, term life insurance may be more affordable than they realize—sometimes comparable to everyday monthly expenses. Your age, health, coverage needs, and underwriting all affect your rate.

The reality: protecting the people you love could be more within reach than you think. A personalized quote takes just minutes and can help you make an informed decision for your family.
