Here’s a 5-minute financial checkup you shouldn't skip this October

As Financial Services Month kicks off, open enrollment season is officially here for many workplace benefits. If you participate in a Flexible Spending Account (FSA), now is the time to check your remaining balance—many employer plans still enforce a strict "use-it-or-lose-it" rule at midnight on New Year's Eve.

While some plans offer a minor carryover window or a short extension into the new year, unspent dollars beyond your specific plan limits are usually forfeited. Reviewing your balance in October gives you a comfortable runway to schedule routine healthcare visits, update prescription eyewear, or take care of eligible health needs before the holiday rush sets in.

Do This: Take 5 minutes this week to log into your benefits portal, check your remaining balance, and plan out your care before year-end.

Have questions about how your workplace benefits fit into your broader financial strategy? Reach out to our team today to start the conversation.

4 Financial Myths to Ignore

When most people hear the phrase "financial planning," they immediately picture pre-retirees counting down the days to retirement or advisors picking individual stocks.
In reality, comprehensive financial planning is about coordinating your entire financial life—from tax efficiency and equity compensation to family asset protection and long-term milestones.

In honor of National Financial Planning Month, we’re clearing up four common misconceptions:

❌ Myth 1: "Financial planning is only for pre-retirees."
The Reality: The highest-leverage planning often happens mid-career—coordinating stock options, optimizing tax brackets during peak earning years, and structuring wealth accumulation strategies early.

❌ Myth 2: "An estate plan is just a basic will."
The Reality: A complete estate strategy involves powers of attorney, healthcare directives, beneficiary alignment across retirement accounts, and trust structures to protect assets seamlessly across generations.

❌ Myth 3: "Financial planning is a one-time product or document."
The Reality: True planning is a living, dynamic process. It adapts as your career evolves, tax laws update, market conditions shift, and family priorities change.

❌ Myth 4: "I can easily manage all of this on my own."
The Reality: While some high earners may be more than capable of managing their money, coordinating tax strategy, risk protection, and investment allocation takes a significant amount of time. Professional planning frees up your time to focus on your business, career, and family.

At Marietta Wealth, our focus is giving families the clarity and objective guidance they need to navigate life’s major financial transitions.

Which of these myths have you run into? Let’s connect in the comments below! 👇

Between shifting oil prices and a September rate hike from the Fed, the third quarter gave market watchers plenty to talk about. Yet looking past the daily headlines, the underlying economic data tells a story of strength.

Even with higher borrowing costs and energy volatility, corporate earnings grew strongly over the past year, and the S&P 500 reached a new all-time high.
Three themes defined the third quarter:

1️⃣ Fundamental Support: Strong consumer spending and business investment helped markets absorb interest rate headwinds.
2️⃣ Narrowing Leadership: Rising Treasury yields created divergence late in the quarter, with larger companies outperforming smaller, rate-sensitive firms.
3️⃣ AI Financing Shift: Tech companies are increasingly utilizing the bond market to fund large-scale AI infrastructure projects.

We just published our complete 3Q 2026 Recap & 4Q Outlook. Read the full analysis, click the link in the comments! 👇

Giving to charity shouldn't trigger an accidental tax penalty.

Here’s one common scenario: If you are over 70½, pulling $10,000 out of your regular bank account to write a check to a charity is often a missed opportunity.

Why? Because you still have to pay ordinary income tax on the money you're required to withdraw from your retirement account (your RMD).

Instead of paying taxes on one pot of money while giving away another, you could send the donation straight from your retirement account—potentially paying $0 in federal income tax on that gift, provided you meet the applicable eligibility requirements.

This is just one strategy to help reduce tax exposure while maximizing your philanthropic impact.

Has Your Success Outgrown Your "DIY" Mindset?

The drive to "do it all" eventually becomes a ceiling for your wealth. As you pass $1M in assets, management shifts from picking funds to navigating tax strategy and estate risks.

If you're DIY-ing—you could be paying an "invisible tax" in lost time and possibly missed opportunities.

“Cost” of DIY:
Weekends spent rebalancing are hours stolen from your family and business.
If you hold all the keys, what is your family’s safety net tomorrow?
Even the sharpest minds have blind spots with their own money.

Marietta Wealth helps you transition from the "Manager" to the CEO of your legacy.

Learn more from our recent blog (link in comments), then contact us. Let us handle the heavy lifting while you reclaim your time.

The best part of our job isn't on a balance sheet.

Most people think financial advice is about numbers, portfolios, and market projections.

Inside our walls, we know it’s about something entirely different. It’s about:
The Sigh of Relief: Watching a couple realize they don't have to stay in a job that drains them just to reach retirement.

The Dream Key: Being the first call after a family buys the house where their kids will mark growth lines on the doorframe.

The Unspoken Weight: Helping ease that quiet, lingering late-night anxiety about whether "it will all be enough."

Financial planning isn't just a spreadsheet. It’s a blueprint for confidence. It’s knowing that whatever life hands you next, you don't have to carry the financial burden alone.

We do this work because money is personal, emotional, and tied to every single hope you have for your family.

What’s a financial goal that’s been keeping you up lately—or a dream you’re waiting to cross off your list?

Drop a line below or reach out; we’re here to listen and help you figure out the path forward. See the link in the comments to chat.

The cheapest years of your retirement might actually be the most expensive. 🛑
It’s a paradox we see all the time:

You retire in your early 60s, your paycheck stops, and your income drops. It feels like you’ve finally arrived in a low-tax season of life!

Fast-forward about a decade: Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) kick in. The government forces you to start taking mandatory annual withdrawals from your pre-tax retirement accounts—whether you need the cash or not.

When those forced withdrawals stack on top of your Social Security and investment income, it could bump you into a higher tax bracket and trigger extra surcharges on your Medicare premiums.

The Good News? The "Gap Years"
Strategic planning during these years—like filling lower tax brackets with partial Roth conversions—can help you pay taxes at today's lower rates instead of waiting for forced taxes later.
