Headlines can be a little exaggerated sometimes, so always read the details. This article states mortgage rates are at its lowest point in a week. The fine print shows that rates improved by 0.02%. Don’t mistake that for a 0.20% improvement. Very different! A more suitable headline would say that mortgage rates remained at near unchanged levels this week.

Why are you getting a PROPERTY TAX bill if your mortgage includes this in the payment? 🏡

This a very common question that I receive this time of year. The fact is that the majority of mortgages include “escrow” within the payment. That means that property taxes and home insurance are included in your payment. However, the county tax office is still required to send you a copy of your tax bill in the mail even if the mortgage company will pay it.

What should you do with the bill? Store it in your tax documents. You may need it when you file your income taxes for 2026.
