The town is in mourning today. ❤️

I’ve been a little quiet, as today I had the privilege of attending the funeral of a true Wigan legend, Sir William John Boston KBE.

I never had the privilege of seeing Billy play, but I was incredibly lucky to get to know him in later life through my great friend Gareth, Billy’s grandson.

And whilst Billy was quite rightly a sporting legend, what I will remember most is the man behind the legend.

He was humble, warm and kind, with the most beautiful smile and a heart to match. That huge smile is something I will remember forever. ❤️

Today was a wonderful reminder of just how much Billy meant to Wigan.

The streets were lined with people who had come to pay their respects. People of all ages, from all walks of life, standing together to say goodbye to one of our own.

It was incredibly moving to see the town come together like that.

His family did him so incredibly proud. The eulogies were beautiful, there was plenty of laughter amongst the tears, and Lauren Waterworth sang absolutely beautifully.

It was a privilege to be there — to say my own farewell to Billy, but also to stand and support my friend Gareth and his family.

Some people leave behind more than memories. They become part of the fabric of a place.

Billy was, and always will be, part of the fabric of Wigan.

Rest well, Sir Billy. ❤️

There’s something very special about Wigan & Leigh Hospice. ❤️

I’ll be honest… the first time I went along to run a Mortgage Clinic there, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect.

When you hear the word ‘hospice’, it’s easy to imagine somewhere that feels quiet, sad and full of heartbreak. After all, they provide such incredibly important end-of-life care.

But I couldn’t have been more wrong.

From the moment you walk through the doors, you’re met with warmth, kindness and genuine smiles. There’s always a “good morning” or a “hiya!” from someone as you walk past — even people who have absolutely no idea who I am!

And it’s the little things that really stay with me.

I watch the staff going about their day and hear things like, “I’ll help you with that,” or “Leave it with me, I’ll sort it.”

There’s such a beautiful sense of teamwork and compassion. You can feel how much people genuinely care — not just about the patients and families they’re supporting, but about each other too.

It really is a happy place, which might sound strange when you consider the incredibly difficult circumstances some of the families who walk through those doors are facing.

But perhaps that’s exactly what makes it so special. ❤️

I feel genuinely privileged that I get to play a tiny part in giving something back to Wigan & Leigh Hospice — an organisation that supports so many people in our local community, including people we know, love and care about.

Thank you for having me again. It’s always a pleasure to come over, spend time with your wonderful team and hopefully make life just a tiny bit easier for your staff.

You do an incredible job, and I’m so proud to be able to support you in my own little way. ❤️

Well… this is the bit nobody tells you about school going back. 🥹

I’ve spent weeks craving routine… and now they’re back, I’ve spent all day missing them and wondering what they’re up to! 😂❤️

Are they settling into their new classes? Do they like their teachers? Have they eaten their lunch?! 😂

Wishing all the little ones heading back today and tomorrow a fabulous first day - and all the parents too! 📚❤️
