Protection is something I talk about with clients every day, but for me, it isn't just a conversation I have because it's part of my job.

๐—œ๐˜'๐˜€ ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—น.

My brother had a stroke when he was just 29 years old.

It completely changed his life. Today, he has no use of one arm and is unable to walk.

And I think that's probably why I look at protection slightly differently.

We all have that little voice that says:

โ€œI'm young.โ€
โ€œI'm healthy.โ€
โ€œIt won't happen to me.โ€
โ€œI'll sort it out later.โ€

But my brother was 29.

Nobody expects something like that to happen at 29.

Seeing what happened to him showed me first hand that serious illness doesn't wait until you're older, until the mortgage is paid off, until you've built up enough savings, or until you've finally got around to sorting everything out.

And when it does, the last thing I'd want someone worrying about is whether they can pay their mortgage, keep up with their bills or financially support their family.

That's why I'm so passionate about having conversations around Life Insurance, Critical Illness Cover and Income Protection.

It's not about scaring people or expecting the worst.

It's about asking a simple question:

So if you've followed this protection series and thought at any point, โ€œI really should look at mineโ€, please don't just add it to the never ending to do list.

๐Ÿ’› Drop me a message.

We'll look at what you already have, what you might need and what works within your budget.

No pressure. No scare tactics. Just a conversation that I know, from personal experience, is worth having.

Can I ask you a slightly uncomfortable question? ๐Ÿ‘€

If something unexpected happened to you tomorrow, would the people who depend on you be financially okay?

Not just if you died, but if you became seriously ill or couldn't work for a long period of time.

Which one are you?

๐Ÿ… Yes, I've got protection in place and I know what I'm covered for
๐Ÿ…‘ I've got some cover, but I'm not actually sure whether it's enough
๐Ÿ…’ No, I don't currently have anything in place
๐Ÿ…“ Honestly? I have absolutely no idea ๐Ÿ˜…

And there is no judgement whatsoever whichever one you picked.

Most of us don't particularly enjoy sitting around thinking about what would happen if life went horribly off-script.

But that's really what protection is about.

Not expecting something bad to happen, but making sure that if it did, the financial side of things is one less thing for you or your family to worry about.

๐Ÿ’› So, where are you? A, B, C or D?

Comment below if you're comfortable, or drop me a private message if you'd rather not tell Facebook your business ๐Ÿ˜‚

And if you genuinely don't know what cover you have, we can go through that too. No pressure, no jargon, just a proper look at where you stand.

โ€œDo I actually need Life Insurance and Critical Illness Cover, or is Life Insurance enough?โ€

I get asked this quite a lot, and the easiest way I explain it isโ€ฆ

Theyโ€™re designed to do two different jobs.

โค๏ธ Life Insurance is there to financially protect the people you leave behind if you die during the policy term.

๐Ÿ’Š Critical Illness Cover is there to financially support you if youโ€™re diagnosed with a condition covered by your policy and meet the insurerโ€™s definition.

Because sometimes the financial impact isnโ€™t caused by someone dying.

Itโ€™s caused by someone being very much here, but being unable to work for months while they go through treatment or recover.

The mortgage still needs paying.
The bills still come out.
You might have childcare costs.
Your partner might need time away from work to support you.

Thatโ€™s why, when I talk to clients about protection, I don't automatically say, โ€œYou need this, this and this.โ€

We look at what would actually happen financially in different situations.

What cover do you already have?
What benefits do you get through work?
What savings could you fall back on?
What would you want protected?
And what can you comfortably afford each month?

Then we work out what makes sense for you.

Sometimes that's Life Insurance. Sometimes it's Life and Critical Illness Cover. Sometimes we need to look at Income Protection too.

There isn't one protection package that everybody should have.

๐Ÿ’› If you're not sure what you've already got, or whether there are any gaps in your cover, drop me a message and we'll go through it properly.

Being self-employed comes with plenty of perksโ€ฆ

But the employee benefits? Not so much ๐Ÿ˜‚

When I speak to self-employed clients about protection, one of the first things we look at is:

โ€œIf you couldnโ€™t work, or something happened to you, what financial safety net do you actually have?โ€

Because when you're employed, you might have things like:

๐Ÿ’ท Employer sick pay
โค๏ธ Death in service
๐Ÿ“‹ Other workplace benefits

When you're self-employed, you often have to arrange that safety net yourself.

And I hear this ALL the time:

โ€œI know I need to sort it. I just haven't got round to it yet.โ€

Completely understandable. When you're running a business, there is always something more urgent demanding your attention.

Clients. Invoices. Accounts. Tax returns. Actually doing the workโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ˜…

Protection somehow ends up at the bottom of the list.

But if you are the person generating the income, it's worth thinking about what happens if suddenly you can't.

Could you still pay yourself?

How long could you cover your mortgage and bills?

And if you weren't here, what position would that leave your family in?

That's where things like Life Insurance, Critical Illness Cover and Income Protection can come in.

You don't necessarily need everything. We look at your circumstances, what safety nets you already have, what matters most to you and what you're comfortable spending.

Then we build from there.

๐Ÿ’› Self-employed and keep thinking, โ€œI really need to sort my protectionโ€? Drop me a message. We can finally get it off your to-do list.

Be honest with me for a second ๐Ÿ‘€If you don't currently have any protection in place, what's actually stopped you from so...
17/08/2026

Be honest with me for a second ๐Ÿ‘€

If you don't currently have any protection in place, what's actually stopped you from sorting it?

๐Ÿ… I assumed it would be expensive
๐Ÿ…‘ I don't really understand all the different options
๐Ÿ…’ It's one of those things I keep meaning to doโ€ฆ and never actually do ๐Ÿ˜…
๐Ÿ…“ I've never really thought I needed it

And genuinely, there's no wrong answer.

Protection is one of those things that's very easy to put off because hopefully you'll never need to use it.

But I find that when I actually sit down with clients and go through it properly, they're often surprised by how straightforward it can be.

We look at what you'd want to protect, what cover you might already have through work, what your priorities are and, importantly, what you're comfortable spending each month.

Then you can decide whether you want to do anything about it.

No scare tactics. No pressure. Just making sure you understand your options.

So I'm curiousโ€ฆ A, B, C or D? ๐Ÿ‘‡

And if you'd rather not announce your finances to Facebook ๐Ÿ˜‚, my inbox is always open for a private chat.

โ€œI bet life insurance is really expensive thoughโ€ฆโ€

This is something I hear all the time.

And quite often, when I actually show someone the figures, the response is:

โ€œOhโ€ฆ is that it?โ€ ๐Ÿ˜‚

There isnโ€™t one set price for Life Insurance because the cost depends on you and the cover youโ€™re looking for.

Things like:

๐Ÿ“… Your age
โค๏ธ Your health and whether you smoke
๐Ÿ’ท How much cover you want
๐Ÿ“‹ How long you want the policy to run for

all make a difference.

And this is why Iโ€™d always rather actually run the figures than have someone decide they canโ€™t afford protection before they even know what it costs.

We can also look at what you actually need protecting.

That might be enough to clear the mortgage, provide something for your family, or a combination of different types of cover depending on your circumstances and budget.

Protection doesn't have to mean throwing every possible policy at you and creating another massive monthly outgoing.

Itโ€™s about working out what matters most, what you can comfortably afford, and getting the best protection we can within that budget.

๐Ÿ’› If you've always assumed Life Insurance would be expensive, drop me a message. I can show you what it could actually look like for you, with absolutely no obligation to go ahead.

12/08/2026

โ€œIโ€™m okay, I get sick pay through work.โ€

I hear this all the time when I talk to clients about Income Protection.

And thatโ€™s great, having employer sick pay is absolutely something we take into account.

But my next question is alwaysโ€ฆ

Do you know exactly how much you get and how long you get it for? ๐Ÿ‘€

Because there can be a big difference between having sick pay and having enough sick pay to cover you if you were off work for a longer period.

You might receive full pay initially, then drop to half pay, and eventually be left relying on Statutory Sick Pay.

Meanwhileโ€ฆ

๐Ÿก Your mortgage still needs paying
๐Ÿ’ท Your bills are still coming out
๐Ÿš— The car payment hasnโ€™t disappeared
๐Ÿ›’ And apparently Tesco still expects you to pay for your shopping ๐Ÿ˜…

And if youโ€™re self-employed, you may not have an employer sick pay package to fall back on at all.

This is where Income Protection can come in.

It can be set up to work alongside the sick pay you already have, with the cover starting when your employer's support reduces or ends.

So having good sick pay through work doesnโ€™t necessarily mean you donโ€™t need Income Protection.

It just means we can take what you already have into account when working out whether thereโ€™s a gap that needs covering.

๐Ÿ’› Not sure what your employer would actually pay if you were off work long term? Have a look at your sick pay benefits and then drop me a message. We can work out whether you have a gap and what your options might look like.

10/08/2026

Let me ask you something ๐Ÿ‘‡

If you couldnโ€™t work for the next 3 months because you were ill or injured, what would actually happen financially?

๐Ÿ… Iโ€™d be fine, I have savings or sick pay to fall back on
๐Ÿ…‘ It would be tight, but weโ€™d probably manage
๐Ÿ…’ Honestly, weโ€™d struggle
๐Ÿ…“ Iโ€™ve never really thought about it

Because the mortgage doesnโ€™t stop.

Neither do the energy bills, food shopping, council tax, car paymentsโ€ฆ you get the idea ๐Ÿ˜…

Some people are lucky enough to have really good sick pay through work. Others may only have limited employer support or Statutory Sick Pay.

And if youโ€™re self-employed? That can be a completely different story.

This is exactly why I talk to clients about Income Protection.

It can provide a regular monthly income if illness or injury leaves you unable to work, helping you keep on top of your normal outgoings while you recover.

And quite often, when I show people what it could cost, they're surprised.

So, honestlyโ€ฆ which one are you? A, B, C or D? ๐Ÿ‘€

๐Ÿ’› If you're a B, C or D and you've never looked at Income Protection before, drop me a message. No pressure, I'll just explain how it works and what your options are.

07/08/2026

I think one of the biggest misconceptions about Critical Illness Cover is that something absolutely catastrophic has to happen before it pays out.

Thatโ€™s not necessarily the case.

Policies can cover a wide range of serious illnesses and conditions, subject to the policy definitions, including some that people go on to recover from.

And thatโ€™s really the point of the cover.

Itโ€™s not just about protecting your family if you die. Itโ€™s about protecting you and your finances while youโ€™re still here.

Think about it ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ’ท If you were unable to work for 6 months, could you still comfortably pay your mortgage and bills?

๐Ÿก If you live with a partner, could your household manage on one income?

๐Ÿ’Š If you were going through treatment, would you want money to be another thing you had to worry about?

Critical Illness Cover can provide a tax-free lump sum if you meet the policy's definition of a covered condition.

That money could be used to reduce your mortgage, cover your bills while you're off work, make changes to your home, or simply give you some financial breathing room while you focus on getting better.

Itโ€™s one of those things we all hope we'll never need, but if you do need it, it can make an enormous difference.

๐Ÿ’› Want to know what cover could look like for you and what it might cost? Drop me a message and we can have a no-pressure chat.

This is one phone call Iโ€™ve never forgotten.

A client contacted me because they needed to make a claim on a protection policy.

The difficult part?

It was a policy I had previously quoted for them, but they had decided not to go ahead with it.

There was nothing I could do.

And conversations like that are exactly why I talk about protection so much.

When you're arranging a mortgage, life insurance, critical illness cover or income protection can feel like another expense. Something you'll sort out later. Something you hopefully won't ever need.

But none of us knows what's around the corner.

Protection isn't about expecting something bad to happen. It's about asking yourself:

If something did happen, how would I or my family cope financially?

You can always decide that protection isn't right for you, but make that decision knowing what the consequences could be.

๐Ÿ’› If you've been meaning to review your protection, or you're not sure whether the cover you already have is enough, drop me a message. We can have a straightforward, no-pressure conversation about it.
