Giving back to our local community 🌱💚

For this year's annual volunteering day, the Arborisk team spent the day with the Friends of Hunger Hills Woods in Horsforth. They are a fantastic local group dedicated to protecting and maintaining this beautiful woodland.

Split into morning and afternoon teams, we got stuck into some hands-on conservation work. One group tackled Himalayan balsam bashing, removing this invasive non-native plant to help native woodland thrive. While the other built dead hedges using branches from fallen trees to protect the woodland's undergrowth and encourage natural regeneration.

A huge thank you to the Friends of Hunger Hills Woods for welcoming us and for the incredible work they do to preserve this special green space.

Top Winter Tips for Arborists ❄️🌳

• Clear all snow from your vehicle before driving including the roof, windows and bonnet. Loose snow can be hazardous for you and other road users.

• Reduce your speed in icy conditions. Stopping distances on snow and ice can be up to 10 times longer than normal!

• Winter weather itself won’t invalidate your insurance - but leaving a vehicle running, unlocked or with the keys inside could leave you uninsured if it’s stolen.

• Keep winter essentials in every vehicle: blankets, warm clothing, de-icer, ice scraper, shovel, high-vis jacket and a reflective warning triangle.

• Plan ahead. Allow extra time for journeys and site access. Be sure to reassess conditions throughout the day.
