Why did I become a mortgage adviser?

After 10 years working in fraud & compliance, I started to think about what I actually wanted to do long term. Being made redundant probably forced my hand a little and gave me the push to actually do something about it.

I wanted to do something different, work with people and build something for myself.

I’ve always been interested in property, but I never thought about how I could work in that world or use the skills I’d picked up over the years in a way that made sense.

I’ve always enjoyed solving problems and helping people, so when I looked into mortgage advice, it felt like a really good fit.

It was a pretty big change going from working for someone else for 10 years to becoming self-employed, but I’m glad I did it.

Its still early days, but I’m really enjoying it so far.

One of the best parts of my job is getting to know so many great local businesses, so every week I'm sharing one that I'd genuinely recommend.

This week is ClanCape, run by WP Nel.

Many rugby fans will know WP from his playing days with Edinburgh and Scotland, but did you know he now runs a food truck showcasing some of the best Scottish and South African flavours?

I've had the chance to try the food myself, and it's an easy recommendation. Everything I've had has been excellent, and it's clear they take real pride in what they do.
