The Bank of Canada increased its key interest rate by 0.25% this morning, bringing it to 2.50%.
So what does that mean for your mortgage?
🏠 If you have a variable or adjustable-rate mortgage, your borrowing costs will increase as lenders adjust their prime rates. Depending on your mortgage, your payment may increase, or more of it may go toward interest.
🏠 If you have a home equity line of credit, you can expect your interest costs to increase as well.
🏠 If you have a fixed-rate mortgage, today’s announcement won’t change your existing rate. Fixed rates are influenced more by the bond market.
The important thing to remember is that not all mortgages are affected the same way.
