On October 12, 1962, the Columbus Day Storm brought powerful winds and widespread destruction across the Pacific Northwest. Total damage across California, Oregon, and Washington was estimated at $230-280 million at the time (roughly $2.4-2.9 billion today).

The storm left its mark on Granwest, too, resulting in a record $700,000 in losses, which would be roughly $7 million today.

More than six decades later, the Columbus Day Storm remains one of the most memorable weather events in the Northwest's history.
