Did you know?
Republic is located near the site of the Battle of Wilson’s Creek, one of the first major Civil War battles fought west of the Mississippi River. Today, the preserved battlefield serves as a National Park, where visitors can explore local history—including the historic Ray House.

The Ray House sits along what was once known as the Wire Road, a major route connecting Jefferson City, Missouri to Fort Smith, Arkansas. In the late 1850s, it even served as a “flag stop” for stagecoaches traveling a two-week journey between Missouri and California. During the Civil War, this road became a critical transportation route for both Union and Confederate forces, playing a role in multiple campaigns across the Ozarks. Today, the battlefield and its landmarks
help preserve and share the history that shaped our region.

🍩 A sweet surprise to brighten our day—thank you to The Salvation Army - Springfield, MO for dropping off donuts for the City yesterday!

Did you know National Donut Day has Salvation Army roots? It began in 1938 to honor the “Donut Lassies,” the brave women who served hand-fried donuts to soldiers on the front lines of World War I. Nearly 90 years later, the tradition lives on as a reminder of community, care, and connection.

This year, the Salvation Army is celebrating 136 years of service in Greene and Christian counties—and what an impact they continue to make. In 2026 alone, they’ve served over 22,000 individuals through their Food Pantry, Frontline Feeding program, and Senior Citizens’ Lunch, cared for more than 60 children each day, and provided hundreds of nights of shelter to neighbors in crisis.

We’re grateful for partners like you who make our community stronger (and sweeter)! ❤️
