Interesting crop insurance price facts for corn and soybeans

Since prices are still declining for Spring guarantees on corn. I thought I would share some insight over the last 33 years.

22 times the Fall price came in lower than the Spring price.
9 of those years the price movement was +/- 30 cents.
7 of the last 10 price was lower in the Fall.
2 of the last 10 was within 30 cents.
The last 3 years the price came in higher in the Fall.

I wish soybeans painted a better picture but unfortunately it does not in the same 33-year span.

20 times the Fall price came in lower than the Spring price.
15 of those year the price movement was +/- 75 cents.
7 of the last 10 price was lower in the Fall.
4 of the last 10 was within 75 cents.
The last 3 years the price came in higher in the Fall.

So, when reviewing your Revenue Policy for 2024 do some quick math and see how the price change affects potential losses.
