At 65, “Bob” thought he had Medicare figured out.

His neighbor told him, “Just pick a plan online. They’re all basically the same.”

So Bob followed that advice.

A few months later, he received medical bills he wasn’t expecting. The plan he chose didn’t fit the doctors he wanted to see, and the out-of-pocket costs were much higher than he anticipated.

The lesson isn’t that Bob should have known everything about Medicare.

The lesson is that Medicare decisions are personal and advice that worked for your neighbor may not work for you.

Before turning 65, take time to review your options with someone who understands Medicare and can help you evaluate your specific situation.

Stop in and see Kay for professional Medicare guidance.

Did you know some very small businesses may have group health-plan options?

Depending on the business and carrier requirements, eligible one-person businesses and husband-and-wife businesses may be able to explore group coverage options.

A group plan may offer:

- Different plan designs than individual coverage
- More flexibility when comparing options
- Potentially different pricing than individual plans
- A path to build benefits around the business, not just one person’s situation

The right answer depends on the business structure, eligibility, carrier availability, and the people covered.

If you own a small business and want to understand what may be available, let’s start with a conversation.

Medicare questions don’t stop after enrollment!

Your Medicare plan is only part of the picture. Sometimes the real challenge is knowing who to call when you have a question about:
A bill or explanation of benefits
A claim
A prescription or pharmacy issue
Coverage changes
A plan renewal
Whether your current coverage still fits your situation

That’s where having a local Medicare agent can make a difference.

At Zimmer & Associates, Kay has spent nearly 30 years helping local individuals and families with Medicare. Her role is not just helping people choose coverage it’s being a familiar resource when questions come up afterward.

If you already have Medicare coverage but don’t feel like you have someone local to stop in to see, we’re happy to have a conversation and explain how we may be able to help.

Did you know that many people in our area are enrolling in ACA Marketplace coverage without an agent?!

According to the latest CMS Marketplace data, the percentage of Marketplace consumers without recorded agent/broker assistance was:
Tuscola County:** 32.24%
Huron County:** 38.50%
Sanilac County:** 27.96%
That means roughly 1 out of every 3 Marketplace consumers in these three counties did not have recorded agent or broker assistance.
Here’s something many people don’t realize:
You pay the same Marketplace premium for the plan, but you gain a professional resource to help you understand your options and navigate the process.

An we can help with:
Comparing coverage options
Completing the application and enrollment
Understanding premiums, deductibles, and networks
Questions about billing and coverage
Help when claims or coverage questions come up
Renewals and plan changes
You do not have to figure everything out alone

Could you get your life insurance premiums back?

A Return of Premium rider can be added to some term life insurance policies. If you outlive the policy term and meet the policy requirements, the rider may return some or all of the eligible premiums you paid.

The rider increases the cost of coverage, and the details vary by policy and insurance company. It’s worth comparing the numbers before choosing your coverage.

Small group health plan rates are increasing and some businesses are seeing increases of 15–20%.

If your renewal is coming in higher than expected, don’t assume your only option is to accept the increase.

At Zimmer & Associates, we’re reviewing cost-saving options for small businesses and are seeing potential savings of approximately 10–15% in some cases: depending on the group, plan design, and employee needs.

A plan review may help identify ways to lower costs while keeping your employees’ coverage goals in focus.

Call us at 989-868-4291 or visit zimmer.agency to discuss your options.

Savings are not guaranteed and vary by group and plan. Plan availability, eligibility, and rates are subject to carrier guidelines and underwriting.
