At 65, “Bob” thought he had Medicare figured out.
His neighbor told him, “Just pick a plan online. They’re all basically the same.”
So Bob followed that advice.
A few months later, he received medical bills he wasn’t expecting. The plan he chose didn’t fit the doctors he wanted to see, and the out-of-pocket costs were much higher than he anticipated.
The lesson isn’t that Bob should have known everything about Medicare.
The lesson is that Medicare decisions are personal and advice that worked for your neighbor may not work for you.
Before turning 65, take time to review your options with someone who understands Medicare and can help you evaluate your specific situation.
