NWS issues TORNADO WARNING for Northern Porter County in effect through 8:30 pm TONIGHT Thursday June 11

The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a TORNADO WARNING for Northern Porter County until 8:30 p.m. TONIGHT Thursday, June 11.

“At 7:35 p.m. a confirmed large and extremely dangerous tornado was located over Hobart, moving northeast at 30 mile per hour,” NWS NWS said: “This is a PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. TAKE COVER NOW.”

“You are in a life-threatening situation,” NWS emphasized. “Flying debris may be deadly to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be destroyed. Considerable damage to homes, businesses, and vehicles is likely and complete destruction is possible.”

The tornado will be near Portage around 7:40 p.m.; Chesterton, South Haven, and Burns Harbor around 7:45 p.m.: Porter and Ogden Dunes around 7:50 p.m. Other locations in the path of this tornadic thunderstorm include Beverly Shores and Town of Pines.

If you’re out and about in Northwest Indiana, be careful. Heavy rain, strong winds, and poor visibility can turn a normal drive into a stressful one pretty quickly.
