Today, on National Senior Citizens Day, we’re celebrating the experience, wisdom, and contributions of older adults in our communities—and highlighting an important issue: elder financial fraud.
Internet-enabled fraud caused approximately $7.7 billion in reported losses in 2025. Some common scams include:
💻 Tech Support Scams: Fake technology companies demand remote access or payment.
💰 Refund Scams: Fraudsters claim you received a payment by mistake and need to send it back.
🚨 Authority Scams: Scammers impersonate government or law enforcement and demand immediate payment.
👨👩👧 Emergency Scams: Criminals pose as loved ones in an emergency and urgently request money.
When in doubt: Pause. Verify. Talk to someone you trust.
Protecting our community means helping each other recognize warning signs.
