'Twas the night before work, when all through the town, Not a vehicle was stirring, not even a sound. The tools were all packed, securely in place, In hopes that the workday would be a smooth race.
The drivers were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of job sites danced in their heads. And mamma in her office, and I at my desk, Had just settled in for a well-deserved rest.
When out on the road there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my seat to see what was the matter. Away to the window, I flew in a dash, Tore open the blinds and threw up the sash.
The moon on the pavement, reflecting below, Gave the lustre of midday to objects aglow, When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a convoy of work vehicles, approaching near.
With a skilled driver, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment, it must be St. Vic. More rapid than eagles, his coursers they came, And he whistled and shouted and called them by name:
"Now, Ford! Now, Chevy! Now, Ram and GMC! On, Toyota! On, Nissan! On, Dodge and BP!
To the top of the freeway! To the end of the street! Now drive away! Drive away! No time to retreat!" As leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the job site, the vehicles they flew, With a cargo full of tools and St. Vic too. And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof, The stomping and clattering of each sturdy hoof.
As I drew in my head and was turning around, Down the chimney St. Vic came with a bound. He was dressed all in coveralls, from his head to his foot, And his clothes were all tarnished with engine oil and soot.
A bundle of policies he had flung on his back, And he looked like a broker, just opening his pack. His eyes how they twinkled, his dimples how merry, His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry.
His smirk of assurance was drawn up like a bow, And the beard on his chin was as white as the snow. The stump of a pen he held tight in his teeth, And the paperwork circled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a round little belly, That shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly. He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old agent, And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of the payment.
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head, Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread. He spoke not a word but went straight to his work, And filled out the forms, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose, And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose. He sprang to his vehicle, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all drove like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight, "Call us today, for a quote that's just right! Protect your work vehicles, day and night. Happy driving to all, and to all a good night!"
