Most of what I do in a first conversation is not talking. It is listening.

People come in with a question about a loan and end up telling me about a parent who needs closer care, a job that finally feels stable, a marriage starting, or a chapter ending. The numbers make more sense once I understand the life they are attached to.

Everyone in this business was clueless once. I certainly was.

I remember the first file I ever worked on, terrified I would miss something that mattered to somebody's life. That fear never fully goes away, and honestly I hope it never does. It is the thing that keeps me careful.

So if you feel like you are asking beginner questions, good. I remember being the beginner.

I answered a want ad. That was the whole plan.

But here is how I think about it. Every document you send me is one less unknown between you and the thing you actually want. The stack feels like a wall. It is really just a series of doors, and we open them one at a time.
