Changed jobs a few times? Your 401(k)s might be scattered everywhere. 🧳
Many of us change jobs more than our parents did. New job, new team, new 401(k)… and the old one just stays behind.
The problem? Those small accounts are easy to forget. Maybe it’s only a few thousand dollars, so it doesn’t feel important. But small accounts still matter, and over time they can add up.
Here’s what I see often:
Old accounts with high fees nobody noticed
Investments that were never reviewed after leaving the job
Old addresses or outdated beneficiaries
People who honestly forgot an account existed (it happens more than you think!)
A few simple steps can help:
Make a list of every 401(k) you’ve had, even the small ones
Update your contact info and beneficiaries
Have someone review them with you
Talk about whether consolidating makes sense for you
Consolidating isn’t always the right move for everyone, but having everything in one clear picture makes life much easier. One login is better than five forgotten passwords. 😊
If you’ve changed jobs and aren’t sure where your old 401(k)s are, I’m happy to help you sort it out. No pressure, just a friendly conversation.
