2-3 MILLION Californians may be affected.
With SB 260 now in full effect over the next 14 months, consumers enrolled in Medi-Cal will begin going through their annual re-determination at their renewal month. They will be assessed if they are still eligible for MAGI Medi-Cal or eligible for any programs. If an adult consumer is on a Medi-Cal plan and is re-determined to be ineligible for Medi-Cal, they will be transitioned to Covered CA and enrolled in the lowest cost SILVER plan.
MIXED FAMILIES -- A mixed family means parents are on a Covered CA plan and a child(ren) are on a Medi-Cal plan. If the child(ren) is re-determined to be ineligible for Medi-Cal, the child(ren) will be transitioned to the parent's Covered CA plan.
Keep an eye out for notices going out from Medi-Cal and Covered CA, especially the DISCONTINUANCE NOTICE from Medi-Cal. It means action is needed. Consumers MUST take action to either KEEP, CHANGE or CANCEL their Covered CA plan. If a plan is cancelled, the consumer will have 60 days to re-enroll. After 60 days, the consumer will have to wait until OPEN ENROLLMENT.
California continues to have penalties for individuals/families that do not carry health insurance.
