Over the past month, we've talked about how a durable plan relies on multiple parts of the market stepping up when the frontrunners take a breather on . Last week brought one of the clearest demonstrations of that shift yet. Between heavy tech earnings, huge rounds of debt financing to fund AI hardware, and sticky inflation prints, the market has officially pivoted from limitless excitement to asking for real returns on capital. That shift pulled the major tech index into a sharp Friday pullback, but look across the rest of the board: the equal-weight market index, small companies, mid-caps, and real estate all finished the week in the green. Meanwhile, benchmark Treasury yields continued their retreat below 5%, giving fixed income another winning week right when stock volatility flared up.

In fact, October wrapped up as the best month for broad market outperformance against concentrated tech benchmarks since 2009. With midterm elections arriving this Tuesday, it’s tempting to wonder how political changes might tilt your portfolio. Yet history over the last 75 years consistently shows that the broader economic cycle drives long-term returns far more than who holds office in Washington. Keeping your capital anchored across different sectors and income-generating assets means you don't have to stress over election ballots or single-industry earnings calls—your strategy is built to compound through every chapter.

How are you viewing the rotation across your portfolio as we head into year-end? Share your thoughts below!

Over the past couple of weeks, we talked on the about how quickly market momentum can rotate when the big tech favorites hit a bump. This past week gave us a textbook example in real time. While mega-cap tech and semiconductor names saw sharp swings as investors took a hard look at massive AI spending bills, the rest of the market quietly stood its ground. Healthcare, financials, and small-cap companies stepped up, and when Thursday brought a wave of tech pressure, benchmark 10-year Treasury yields actually dipped back below 5% as investors reached for the steady shelter of high-quality bonds.

Seeing the spotlight shift across different sectors is actually one of the healthiest signs long-term investors can witness. Market cycles naturally evolve from rewarding unchecked enthusiasm to demanding real profitability. Rather than relying on a single industry to stay undefeated, structuring your wealth across non-correlated assets means that while one group works through its growing pains, other holdings step forward to provide stability and income, without having to scramble, because they’re already in place.

Over the past few weeks, we talked about keeping your eyes forward rather than the rearview mirror. This past week showed exactly why that forward view matters. Tech stocks took a noticeable step back, pulling down the major market indexes, even while inflation data came in a bit on the warm side. But if you look at the broader market, a very different story unfolded: 7 out of 11 sectors actually pushed higher, with steady areas like consumer staples, energy, and real estate quietly doing what they do best. Meanwhile, bond yields gave back some ground as investors remembered that high-quality fixed income still provides a genuine safety net when growth narrative jitters pop up.

If you only watch the mega-cap favorites, last week felt jarring. But the real secret to staying invested isn’t hoping a single trend stays invincible forever. It’s making sure that when market enthusiasm rotates, you already have other working parts in place quietly doing the heavy lifting for you, making a stumble in one sector a manageable footnote rather than an emergency.

We talk a lot about shifting conditions, but this past week brought a big change that hits close to home for every wealth plan: bonds are back in the game.

With 10-year Treasury yields hovering near 5.3% and 30-year rates around 5.7%, borrowing costs are at levels we haven't seen in over two decades. Even better, after accounting for expected inflation, real yields are pushing 3%.

It’s easy to look back at the sting of 2022 and wonder why anyone would want to own bonds today. Shift your gaze forward, though, and today’s setup looks far more inviting.

When yields were near zero, a tiny rate hike wiped out a year's worth of interest. At 5%-plus starting yields, that steady coupon acts as a genuine shock absorber. If rates tick higher, the payout cushions the drop; if rates cool down, bondholders capture both the income and the upside.

Stocks don't have to carry the entire load anymore. When high-quality fixed income pulls its own weight alongside your growth assets, you don't have to guess where rates are headed next week—your plan is already working for you.

Don’t let past rate hikes distract you from today’s income potential.

At AGA, we’re here to help you stay focused on what’s ahead, ensuring today’s income opportunities actively support the bigger picture.
