On 21 June 2026, the National Party announced proposed changes to KiwiSaver, including making it compulsory for workers, increasing contribution rates to 6% each by 2032, introducing a $1,500 “Baby Boost” for newborns, and extending contributions during Paid Parental Leave and for workers over 65 if re-elected.

The changes are not yet law, but could significantly affect how New Zealanders save for retirement and plan their finances going forward.
