AUTUMN BUDGET 2026: What does it mean for the property market? 🏡
The Budget announced yesterday brings important changes for first-time buyers, homeowners and landlords. Here’s what you need to know: 👇
🔑 First-time buyers - 'Your First Home' scheme launching in April 2027, which could allow eligible first-time buyers to purchase a new-build property with a 2.5% deposit and a 20% government-backed equity loan.
🏘️ Landlords - Tax increase on property income is rising from the previously announced 2% to 4% from the 2027–28 tax year. This could squeeze landlords’ profits further, potentially influencing decisions to sell or retain rental properties.
💷 Higher-value homes - The High Value Council Tax Surcharge has been clarified, with annual charges ranging from £2,500 for properties valued between £2m and £2.5m to £7,500 for homes worth £5m or more.
📈 House prices - The Office for Budget Responsibility forecasts average house price growth of 11.6% over the next four years, but has reduced its projections for housing market activity by around 4% from the beginning of 2027.
