It’s not the cheeriest question I’ll ask you today—but it’s definitely an important one.

Which situation would have the biggest financial impact on your household?

DO YOU ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND YOUR COVER?

I was arranging some mortgage protection recently and it got me thinking about how much jargon we use in this industry.
Level cover.

Decreasing cover.
Critical Illness Cover.
Income Protection.

We talk about these things every day, so they become normal to us.

But they might not be normal to you.

And when your adviser leaves your house, or you come off the phone, you should fully understand what you’ve got, why you’ve got it and what it’s there to do.

If you’re not sure, ask.

There really is no such thing as a daft question.
When I first started in this job, there were loads of terms I’d never even heard of either.

So whether you’re speaking to me or another adviser, don’t be afraid to stop and say:

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month — and honestly, this is one that really pulls at your heart.

As a mam, I don’t think there’s anything scarier than your child being seriously poorly.

Every day, children and their families show strength most of us can’t even imagine. The hospital appointments, the waiting, the worry, the trying to keep life going while everything feels upside down.

This month is about raising awareness, showing support, and reminding families they’re not alone.

And from my side, it’s also a gentle reminder that children’s critical illness cover can sometimes be added to family protection policies — giving a financial safety net if the worst ever happened.

It doesn’t take the fear away.
It doesn’t make things right.

But it can help with time off work, travel, bills, childcare, or just giving a family a bit more breathing space when they need it most.

Turns out being a Personal Insurance Adviser does NOT automatically make you good at filming yourself. 😂

I can talk about life insurance, critical illness and income protection all day long… but stick a camera in front of me and suddenly I forget how to speak. 🤦‍♀️

There’s been stumbling, laughing, starting again, pulling daft faces… and yes, the odd bit of swearing when I’ve fluffed the same line for the 15th time. 😂

So rather than pretending every video is nailed perfectly in one take, I thought I’d show you the bits that normally get chopped out. -

And judging by the amount of footage I’ve got… there’ll definitely be a Take 2. Probably a Take 3. Maybe even a whole bloody series. 😂
