⭐️SPOTLIGHT ⭐️
Glynn Cardall and Carole Cardall!
Glynn and Carole are retired business owners and wanted to share their story…we hear from Glynn…
👉 Business - Previous owners of the Boy and Barrel in Selby
⭐Slogan - We had several slogans but I think our best one was ‘Come to the bar and buy a drink, then come back and buy another’
📖 My story - Originally, we lived in Wakefield but moved to Selby when the coal mines opened. When I got made redundant from the NCB both Carole and I decided to take on the Boy and Barrel as an ongoing business. Our business plan was to try squeeze £10 out of each person who came in per day.
🏆Biggest achievement - We had a couple of big achievements such as forming a men’s and women’s darts and domino nights and also football teams. But I’d have to say our biggest was forming a community.
❌Biggest error - When we made one room into a function room to make money for all the children in the area to get a coach and go for days out. However, our 1st function was an 18th birthday party which we didn’t take a deposit for and no one showed up leaving us with multiple staff I had to pay for doing no work that night.
🤝Best business advice - Always take a deposit!
🏃♀️Hobbies - We like walking the dog and looking after our grand-daughters. Carole also likes to read and I football referee most weekends.
🎂Food - Being from Yorkshire we’d both have to say fish and chips with mushy peas.
