On 3 March, Rachel Reeves delivered the government’s latest Spring economic forecast, based on analysis from the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR).

She defended the government’s economic strategy, highlighting progress such as a projected £18bn reduction in borrowing and signs of easing inflation.

Key forecasts show UK growth at 1.1% in 2026 (down from 1.4%), while inflation is expected to fall to 2.3% and reach the Bank of England’s 2% target by the end of the year.

However, challenges remain. Unemployment could rise to 5.3%, and global tensions in the Middle East—impacting energy prices—may still affect inflation and interest rate expectations.

Overall, the government says stronger fiscal headroom and falling inflation put the UK in a better position to navigate economic uncertainty. 📊📉
