In the final rate decision of 2025, the BoC has decided to keep rates steady. This is widely to do with stronger than expected growth in the economy. This includes a drop in the unemployment rate to 6.5%.
The Bank has noted that the current policy rate is at a level in which inflation can be managed, while still leaving room to adjust if Q4 economy numbers come in week.
Next rate announcement is January 28th, not too far away!

Today the Canadian Mortgage Brokers Association hosted Vassy Kapelos. She gave her thoughts on the new budget, and added great insight on the reaction from both political parties. One thing I’ll say about Vassy…she asks the tough questions to our politicians and digs for answers. A true gem! Shout out to CMBA for putting together this event. They fight to make home ownership more attainable for everyone.

Huge Jays win, followed by big news from the Bank of Canada dropping the overnight rate by 0.25%. If you’re a variable rate mortgage holder (or have a HELOC), your rate will be dropping by a quarter percent. New Prime lending rate will be 4.45%!
