Cross-border tax planning is one of those areas where the details really matter, particularly when it comes to accounts that may be tax-advantaged in one country but treated very differently in the other.
That's why I'm looking forward to an upcoming webinar being hosted by MNP and Raymond James on September 24, focused specifically on the taxation of Canadian and U.S. registered and tax-advantaged accounts.
If you live, work, invest, or have family on both sides of the Canada–U.S. border, this should be a really useful session.
We'll be covering topics including:
• How Canada treats Traditional IRAs, Roth IRAs, 529 plans and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs)
• How the U.S. treats TFSAs, FHSAs, RESPs and RRSPs
• Pre-immigration planning considerations for Canadians moving to the U.S.
• Treaty and reporting considerations that can easily be overlooked
• The new U.S. Trump Accounts, including potential implications for Canadian-resident beneficiaries and cross-border families

I work with a number of individuals and families who have financial lives that span both Canada and the U.S., and these are exactly the types of issues that can become complicated very quickly without the right planning and advice.
