Meet Bobbie Thompson, Right at Home Canada Fraser Valley, a home care provider dedicated to helping seniors and adults with disabilities live safely and comfortably, wherever they call home.

After more than 20 years in nonprofit finance, Bobbie saw an opportunity to do things differently in home care. In 2018, she acquired the Right at Home franchise for the Fraser Valley, with a vision to build a care team rooted in compassion, flexibility, and community.

Today, her team delivers personalized support, from companionship and personal care to dementia support and post-hospital recovery, meeting clients in homes, hospitals, and care facilities across the region.

“I wanted the freedom to build a service that says ‘yes’ first, then designs care around each person,” Bobbie shares.

Just two years into her journey, Bobbie was leading her business through the uncertainty of COVID-19 and longed for guidance and connection. She joined WeBC’s Mentoring Program in 2021, where she was matched with her mentor, Jennifer. Through mentorship, Bobbie found space to reflect, strengthen her leadership, and build systems to better support both her team and clients, bringing greater clarity and confidence to her next stage of growth.

Today, she continues to scale her impact across the Fraser Valley, growing her team, deepening partnerships, and supporting more families with trusted, high-quality care.

Meet Cheryl Gawley, the artist, founder, and heart behind Work of Art Pottery Studio in Kelowna, a space where people can slow down, explore their creativity, and connect with others.

After more than 30 years in accounting and the oil & gas sector, Cheryl felt a growing pull toward something more meaningful and aligned with her creative spirit. She followed that instinct and opened her pottery studio, just weeks before the pandemic. It wasn’t the timing she expected, but her resilience, resourcefulness, and deep commitment to her craft carried her through.

Cheryl was introduced to WeBC when she met Shauna Harper, our CEO, who visited the studio with her family. “She introduced herself and WeBC. I wish I had known about them sooner,” Cheryl shared.

Since then, Cheryl has taken part in several WeBC programs, including online learning for HR, business growth, and business loan information sessions. More recently, Cheryl has also joined our Pollinator Program, where she hopes to share her journey and encourage other women entrepreneurs to seek the support they need to bring their dreams to life.

We’re proud of Cheryl and the community‑driven space she has built. Work of Art Pottery Studio has become a go‑to destination in Kelowna for creativity, connection, and meaningful experiences.

Big congratulations to our CEO Shauna Harper on being named the Spirit Award winner at last night’s Kelowna Women in Business RISE Awards 🎉

Shauna was recognized for leaning into important (and often uncomfortable) conversations around representation. After attending a KWIB event a few years ago and noticing the lack of diversity in the room, she reached out to the board to talk about what could be different, and how WeBC could support that change.

From there, we sponsored memberships for underrepresented women, supported training to help foster a stronger sense of belonging, and supported their Ambassador network to welcome more women into the space. It’s been thoughtful, steady work, and really meaningful to see it recognized.

WeBC was proud to sponsor the Woman of the Year Award. Congratulations to Sherrone Lobban for receiving this well-deserved recognition 🙌

And a big congratulations as well to Karen Mason, who received the Change Maker Award for her work supporting survivors of abuse and brain injury 💞

It would not have been an easy job for the judges this year. We have such a strong community of women doing meaningful, impactful work. Congratulations to all of the nominees!

We were also treated to a beautiful performance by the Okanagan Filipino-Canadian Society, and enjoyed having the moments captured by Wax Pencil Imagery so we could truly be present for the night.

Thank you to our fellow sponsors ATB Wealth Crowe MacKay and Tigers Eye Advisory Group and to KWIB for hosting such an inspiring event!
