Our Chief Participant Officer, Jenny Cappellacci, and Senior Manager Employment Programs, Racheal Blaxell, had the opportunity to sit down with representatives from the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) for a meaningful conversation about how we continue to grow and evolve as a Transition to Work provider 🀝

We discussed what is working well in our Transition to Work program, where we can improve, and how place-based servicing and strong community connections can better support the young people we work with every day.

Conversations like this are an important part of how we continue to show up for young people across the Hunter region and ensure our services are making a real difference.

πŸ… A Royal Honour for Mai-Wel CEO John Cleary

We are incredibly proud to share that John Cleary has been recognised in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours List for his service to the community through the not-for-profit sector.

This prestigious honour recognises John's decades of dedication to creating opportunities for others and his unwavering commitment to inclusion, employment pathways and stronger communities.

Under John's leadership, Mai-Wel has grown its impact across the Hunter, supporting thousands of people to build skills, gain employment, increase independence and connect with their community.
John will travel to Government House in September to formally receive his medal and certificate.

We are so proud to share π˜‰π˜Άπ˜ͺ𝘭π˜₯, an original artwork created for Mai-Wel by artist Jess Sulter (Art by Jess) earlier this year.

The piece captures the relationship between staff and participants, where every interaction leaves a mark and contributes to something greater.

Flowing paths connect gathering places across the canvas, reflecting the teamwork, collaboration and mutual support that sit at the heart of what we do. Each circle builds on the last, a visual reminder that growth is ongoing and every step forward matters.

Directional arrows carry a sense of purpose and momentum, encouraging everyone to move toward their aspirations. It is a beautiful and meaningful work, and we are grateful to Jess for bringing it to life in a way that so genuinely reflects the Mai-Wel community.

You may have spotted it on the Maitland Blacks jerseys at last month's Charity Day. Stay tuned - this won't be the last time you see it! πŸ‘€

Yesterday, our CEO John hosted a special BBQ lunch to say thank you to the Enterprise Industry teams who have been a key part of our social enterprise over the years.

The event brought together enterprise staff, supported employees and teams from across Mai-Wel to celebrate the meaningful work and experiences gained through the enterprise.

It was wonderful to recognise the collaboration and commitment that drives impact for our participants and the wider community, as we looking forward to where our social enterprise heads next.

Membership is a quiet but meaningful way to be part of what we continue to build across the Hunter Region.

As a member, you'll be invited to our Annual General Meeting, receive updates on our programs and social enterprises, and be welcomed into a community of people who share our values of inclusion, equity, and diversity.

Membership is open to those aged 18 and over who believe in a more inclusive Hunter Region.

Kevin has become a familiar and friendly face to the locals as he works on upskilling in his role.
