First and foremost - make sure you get this in place before you lodge your personal tax return.
Secondly - this is a time when it’s often useful to lodge your SMSF and personal tax returns at the same time (or lodge your personal return first). That way, when the SMSF return is lodged, the ATO already knows some of the super contributions reported for you by the SMSF have been claimed as a tax deduction.
If they don’t know this, they’ll assume all the contributions you’ve made to super this year were non-concessional contributions. If it looks like you’ve exceeded your cap on these contributions, the ATO will start the process of notifying you of an excess.
