At ARMA Insurance Brokers, we believe in supporting causes that strengthen our communities. That’s why we’re getting behind John Bowman as he prepares for the CBN Charity Challenge this October! 🏔️🚣‍♂️

John will be spending five days navigating the rugged wilderness, native forests, and waterways of New Zealand's Abel Tasman National Park on foot and by kayak.
He’s undertaking this physical challenge with one clear goal: raising funds for Kick On, an organization empowering young Australians with essential mental health skills and support systems.

Youth mental health is a cause close to our hearts. Every dollar raised directly helps create positive conversations and practical assistance for young people doing it tough.
If you’re able to contribute, John would truly appreciate your support.

We’ve been digging through the archives and found something pretty rare... a photo of Steve.😂

Getting Steve in front of the camera isn’t always easy, although apparently putting enough seafood in front of him to feed a small town did the trick. 🦐

This one might be an old photo, but the approach to business hasn’t changed.

For Steve, broking has always been about relationships. Getting to know clients, understanding their businesses and being there when they need advice or support.

That personal connection is a big part of how ARMA does business.

As for the seafood platter, we’re still trying to work out if Steve actually finished it.

Although looking at that smile, we wouldn’t bet against him. 😂

You’d think an echidna digging its way into a house would make for a fairly straightforward insurance claim.

Apparently not. 🦔

In a recent Australian insurance dispute, an echidna dug through the wall of a property before causing damage to walls, skirting boards and carpet inside.

The insurer declined the claim because the policy excluded damage caused by animal “scratching”.

The argument put forward was that the echidna hadn’t scratched its way in. It had dug and burrowed its way in.

It eventually went before the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA), which sided with the insurer, finding that the damage caused by the echidna’s claws fell within the policy’s scratching exclusion.

It’s certainly one of the more unusual insurance disputes we’ve come across, but there’s also a serious point behind it.

Sometimes the outcome of a claim can come down to the interpretation of just one word in an insurance policy.

And while we can’t predict when an echidna might decide your house looks inviting, understanding what your policy does and doesn’t cover before something happens is always worthwhile.

That’s where having a broker in your corner can make a difference.

Insurance can be strange. The fine print matters.

Small towns know how to put on a big day, and Vacy is about to prove it. 🐕🐎🌾

The Vacy Country Carnival presented By BlackJack Pastoral returns on Sunday 13 September, and this is country community spirit at its best.

We’re talking small dog racing, working dogs, horses, calf feeding, chainsaw demonstrations, tractors, market stalls, country food and live music. There’s even camel riding thrown into the mix.

At, we love seeing events like this happening in the smaller communities across our region.

These days don’t happen by accident. Behind them are local businesses, sponsors, community groups and plenty of volunteers putting in the work to create something everyone can enjoy.

So if you’re looking for an excuse to head to Vacy, this might be it.

And if the Jack Russells and Dachshunds racing each other doesn’t convince you, we’re not sure what will. 😂

Last week, we shared the story of a child who decided to help Mum and Dad wash the family car… with sandpaper.

Well, here's another insurance claim that proves you really can't predict what might happen.

An elderly Australian woman accidentally drove through the garage door, continued through the living room and hit the family's camper trailer with enough force to push it into the septic tank.

If that wasn't enough, the carport came down as well.

And her husband? Apparently, he was watching TV at the back of the house and didn't initially realise what had happened.

It's another rather extreme reminder that the unexpected has a habit of happening when you least expect it.

At ARMA Insurance Brokers, that's why we believe insurance isn't just about having a policy sitting in a drawer. It's about having the right cover and a broker you can call when something goes spectacularly off script.

Although in this case, the first conversation might have been with the husband.

“You might want to come out the front…”

Two years with ARMA and Taylor has found plenty to enjoy along the way!

To mark the milestone, we asked Taylor to narrow it down to three things she enjoys most about working at ARMA.

First up, the challenge of being a broker. No two clients, businesses or situations are exactly the same, which means there’s always something new to work through, learn and solve.

Then there’s the four-day working week. We probably don’t need Taylor to explain why that one made the top three!

And finally, the team. Because even with the challenges, deadlines and busy days, the people you work alongside make a big difference.

Congratulations on two years, Taylor. We’re very glad to have you as part of the ARMA Hunter Valley team!

When the kids offer to wash the car… maybe ask how first.

In one of the more unusual insurance claims, a child decided to help Mum and Dad by washing the family car.

Very thoughtful. There was just one small problem...they used sandpaper.

The car was certainly cleaner. The paintwork, unfortunately, had seen better days.

It might be an extreme example, but it’s also a reminder that insurance claims don’t always happen the way you expect. Sometimes it’s an accident, sometimes it’s bad luck and sometimes it’s a very enthusiastic child with good intentions and the wrong cleaning equipment.

That’s why at ARMA Insurance Brokers, we believe good insurance is about more than having a policy. It’s about having someone who understands your cover and is there to help when the unexpected happens.

And if the kids offer to wash the car this weekend, perhaps hide the sandpaper first.

We asked the team to send us some photos showing the personalities behind the business...they sent us their dogs.

We’re not sure if that says more about the team or the dogs, but looking at this collection, we can understand the decision. They may actually be the more photogenic members of the Hunter Valley operation.

So, we thought we’d have a little fun.

Can you match the dog to the ARMA Hunter Valley team member?

We haven’t been given the answers yet, so we’re going purely on appearances. There’s definitely a senior management type amongst them, a couple who look like they’d be very good at client relationships, one who appears to take compliance extremely seriously and at least one who looks like they’d sleep through the Monday morning meeting.

Insurance is a people business, and getting to know the people behind ARMA is part of what we want to share. Apparently, getting to know their dogs comes with the territory too.

The bigger question might be…who’s actually running the Hunter Valley office?

High Street, Maitland, is more than just a main street. It's the heart of a community built on hard work, resilience and local connections.

From family-owned businesses and cafés to retailers, professional services and trades, the businesses that line Maitland's streets play an important role in driving the local economy and shaping the character of the Hunter region.

Behind every shopfront is a story. Generations of families, passionate business owners and dedicated teams who invest not only in their businesses, but also in the communities they call home. They sponsor local sporting clubs, support community events and create the connections that make regional centres like Maitland such special places to live and work.

As the Hunter continues to grow and evolve, the strength of our region will always be found in the people and businesses that keep our communities thriving.

At ARMA Insurance Brokers Hunter Valley, we are proud to work alongside local businesses across Maitland and the wider region, helping protect what they have worked so hard to build and supporting the communities that support us.

Last week, our ARMA Insurance Brokers CEO Amanda visited Taste of the Country in Pokolbin, a valued client of ours for more than 17 years.

Nestled in the heart of the Hunter Valley wine region, Taste of the Country has earned a reputation for its homemade food, country hospitality and the welcoming atmosphere created by owner Louise, who goes above and beyond to make every customer feel at home.

For Louise, it's about more than serving great food. It's about creating a place where locals and visitors can come together, share stories and experience the unique charm of the Hunter.

No visit is complete without saying hello to Matilda the cow and Wilbur the pig, two much-loved characters who have become part of the café's identity. Matilda even has her own local legend after a group of revellers once carried her a couple of kilometres down the road before she eventually found her way home.

We are incredibly proud to have supported Louise and her team for almost two decades. Businesses like Taste of the Country are the backbone of our regional communities, bringing people together and helping make the Hunter Valley such a special place to live, work and visit.

If you're exploring Pokolbin, make sure you stop in, enjoy some genuine country hospitality and meet Matilda and Wilbur for yourself.
