🤔 Knowing how much you *can* contribute to super is one thing.

Working out how much you *should* contribute is another.

You still need to consider your mortgage, cash flow, tax, savings, investments outside super — and when you may need access to your money.

That’s where financial modelling can help.

You can compare different options, see the trade-offs, and make a more informed decision about what makes sense for you.

If you’re in your 40s or 50s and wondering whether you’re behind with super, get in touch.

We can help you work out where you stand and what your options look like from here.

💰 Could your concessional super contribution cap be as high as $115,000 this year?

In this example, Joey’s income has varied over the past five years, so his employer contributions haven’t used all of his concessional caps.

If he meets the eligibility rules — including having less than $500,000 in super at the previous 30 June — he may be able to carry those unused amounts forward.

That can be particularly useful if circumstances have changed and you suddenly have more money available — perhaps from an inheritance, selling an asset, a smaller mortgage or simply having more surplus cash flow.

And there may also be a tax deduction available.

The key is working out not just how much you **can** contribute, but how much actually makes sense for you.

😬 I’ve got a confession to make…

For most of my 30s, I didn’t contribute much to super.

Mortgage. Two young kids. Newly self-employed. There was always somewhere else for the money to go.

If you’re now in your 40s or 50s thinking you should have done more earlier, don’t assume you’ve missed your chance.

There may be ways to catch up — and potentially claim a tax deduction along the way.

In the next video, I’ll show you how one of those strategies works.

👫 When there’s a significant age gap, retirement planning needs to consider **both spouses — and potentially very different time horizons.**

Enjoying more time together now matters. ❤️ But so does protecting the younger spouse’s financial future.

Good planning is about finding the right balance. ⚖️

If there’s an age gap in your relationship and you’re wondering what retirement could look like, get in touch.

When one spouse is retired and the other is still working, sometimes the biggest question isn’t just “When can we afford to retire?”

It’s also about making the most of the healthy years you have together. ❤️

👫 A significant age gap can add another layer to retirement planning.

One spouse may already be retired while the other is still working — with different retirement dates, super access and Age Pension timing to consider.

📅 You need to plan for the years **between** two retirement dates as well.

If you’re planning for retirement, there are three numbers worth knowing.

Each one changes the rules around your super and retirement income.

60. 65. 67.

Here’s what happens at each age — and why it can pay to start planning before you get there.

Will your kids change your retirement plans?

My eldest daughter got her driver’s licence this week, and in a few months she’ll finish school.

It got me thinking — will our kids stay at home longer? Will we help them buy their first home? And should that form part of our own retirement planning?

What do you think?

Should you move everything to cash when you retire?

It can feel like the safest option. But with retirement potentially lasting 25–30 years or more, there’s another risk to consider: inflation slowly reducing your purchasing power.

In the final video of my Your Retirement Paycheck series, I look at the role of cash and growth investments, and why retirement planning is about finding the right balance.

If you’re approaching retirement and would like to understand what your own retirement paycheck could look like, send me a message using the button below and we can start the conversation.
