The RBA raised rates again today.
For Mortgage holders, this is creating a certain degree of anxiety about what this will do to their repayment.
And for mortgage holders, the important question isn’t just “what happened to my repayments”
It’s:
“What am I doing about it?”
Another 0.25% increase might not sound like much.
But on a $700,000 mortgage, it can mean roughly another $100 a month in repayments. And for households already carrying large mortgages, multiple rate increases add up quickly.
As a mortgage broker, I’m seeing a lot more borrowers asking:
• Can I get a better rate?
• Should I fix part of my loan?
• Is my current loan structure still right?
• Should I be paying down debt or keeping cash in offset?
• Has my borrowing capacity changed?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer.
But doing nothing is a decision too.
If you haven’t reviewed your mortgage in the last 12 months, now is a pretty good time to understand exactly where you stand — particularly if your loan balance is substantial.
Rates are moving. Your strategy should move with them
