Another enquiry comes in. Whoohoooo... or so you think.

They want a quote, so you call them, ask the questions, arrange a time and put everything together. Then you find out they’ve asked five other businesses to quote as well. You’ve already spent an hour or two on it, and now you’re competing with people you’ve never heard of for a customer who may simply choose the lowest number at the bottom of the page.

Sometimes you win the job. Sometimes you follow up three times and never hear from them again.
That’s the exhausting part of chasing cold leads. Every enquiry starts from zero.

They don’t know you. They don’t know the quality of your work. They don’t know whether you’ll answer the phone, arrive when you say you will or look after them properly.

A referral starts differently.
When someone they already trust says, “I know someone you should speak to,” some of that trust comes with the introduction.
You still need to be the right fit. You still need to explain your value and earn the work. But you’re no longer just one unfamiliar name in a list of six quotes.

That’s what we’re building at BNI Gateway.

Our members put time into understanding each other’s businesses, the problems we solve and the clients we can genuinely help. So when an opportunity comes up, we can make a useful introduction rather than simply pass on a phone number.

If you’re tired of every new enquiry beginning as a race against five strangers, perhaps it’s time to put more warm introductions into the way you grow your business.

Come and meet us at BNI Gateway. We'd love to meet you and introduce you to others in your contact sphere that will help you all grow your businesses together. Send us a message or register here --->>> https://www.eventbrite.com.au/o/bni-australia-73666369023

Are you a North Brisbane business owner who’s great at what you do?

We’d like to meet you.

On Thursday 15 October, BNI Gateway is holding a Visitor Day at Aspley Hornets, and you’re invited to come along and introduce us to your business.

You’ll have the opportunity to tell a room of local business owners who you are, what you do and the type of customers you can help.

You’ll also meet people from a wide range of industries. You may find a service your own business needs, meet someone you can confidently recommend to your customers or start a conversation that leads to opportunities for both of you.

That’s why we hold Visitor Days.

We want to meet more good North Brisbane business owners and understand what you do. Because when someone asks us, “Do you know someone who can help with that?”, we’d like to know whether that person could be you.

We can’t recommend a business we don’t know.

So if you’re reliable, good at what you do and would like more local business owners to know your name, come and spend a Thursday morning with us.

📅 Thursday 15 October
⏰ 6:45 am to 8:30 am
📍 Aspley Hornets

Come for the conversations, tell us about your business and see who you meet.

Registration is required, so send us a message or email Corrina at [email protected] and we’ll arrange your invitation.

R U OK? Day is a reminder that a genuine conversation can make a real difference.

This year, it falls the day before Brad’s Brewskis, so we’re bringing the two together for a special one off get together on Friday, 11 September.

We’re inviting BNI members from every chapter to join us for a relaxed afternoon of good company, a few drinks and conversations that go beyond the usual business chat.

BNI is built on relationships, and those relationships are about more than referrals. They’re also about looking out for one another, listening with care and asking a simple but important question: “Are you OK?”

Come along, catch up with familiar faces, meet members from other chapters and help us make this gathering count. We have a table booked so would be great to know numbers. If you're planning to come please message the page and let us know 😀 Usually 4.30-6pm but some of us will stay on for a meal together. Aspley Hornets.

Good brews. Great conversations. Stronger connections. 💛

Think about how many people you know.
Now think about how many people 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 know.
Their clients. Their suppliers. Their colleagues. Their neighbours. Their friends. Their family. The businesses they deal with every day.

Suddenly your network gets a whole lot bigger.
That’s one of the things that makes referral relationships so powerful.

At BNI Gateway, it’s not just about the people sitting around the table each week. Each member brings an entire network with them. And when we understand each other’s businesses well enough to recognise the right opportunity, those networks start connecting. One relationship can lead somewhere you never could have reached on your own.

Your network isn’t just who you know. It’s who they know too. We’re always looking to add great businesses to ours.

Maybe it’s time our networks meet. Send us a message or email Corrina at [email protected] for an invitation to a meeting, or to our next Visitor Day on 15th October.

𝗧𝗢 𝗙𝗨𝗡𝗗 𝗢𝗥 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗙𝗨𝗡𝗗… 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗤𝗨𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡!

You’ve got the cash sitting there, and you’ve got a big business purchase to make.

So surely paying cash is the smart move?

Not necessarily.

This week’s Feature Presenter, 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗱 from Astute Wooloowin, is going to unpack the decision between using cash and financing your next major business purchase.

Because the question isn’t simply, “Can I afford to pay cash?”

It’s also what that cash could be doing elsewhere in your business, how important it is to preserve cash flow, and whether finance could actually put you in a stronger position.

For business owners considering their next vehicle, piece of equipment or other major asset purchase, it’s a conversation worth having 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 the money leaves the bank account.

If you’re a business owner with a purchase on the horizon, or you work with clients regularly investing in vehicles, equipment or assets, come along to BNI Gateway this Thursday and hear James make the case for both sides.

You may find the smartest question isn’t 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲?

It’s 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲?

A real referral changes the conversation before it even begins.

The credibility is established. The need is clear. The opportunity is real.

That’s the power of building relationships with people who know your business and feel confident recommending you.

Giving someone a referral sounds simple.

But when you stop and think about it, you’re actually saying something pretty significant:
“I trust this person enough to introduce them to you.”
Your reputation goes along with that introduction.
That’s why a good referral network isn’t simply a long list of businesses and phone numbers.

At BNI Gateway, we meet every week. We hear about each other’s work. We learn how each business operates. We hear the stories, see the results and build relationships over time. We know the people we're recommending, and only recommend businesses we can confidently stake our own reputation on.

That makes it much easier to confidently say, “Give them a call and tell them I sent you.” And it’s why we're always interested in meeting other great business owners. Not simply because we want more members.

We want more good people we can confidently refer business to.
If that sounds like you, we'd love to meet you. Send us a message or email Corrina [email protected] for an invitation to a meeting or our next Visitor Day on 15th October.

Some of the best conversations about your business happen when you’re nowhere near them.

Someone mentions they need help.
Someone else says, “You should talk to…”

And your name comes up.
That’s referral marketing at its best.

It doesn’t happen because you handed out enough business cards or turned up to every networking event around town. It happens because someone understands what you do, recognises the type of person you can help and trusts you enough to put your name forward.

That’s a big part of what we’re building at BNI Gateway.

Each week, we learn a little more about one another’s businesses. Not only what each person does, but the problems they solve, the people they can genuinely help and what a good referral looks like for them.

That way, when the right conversation happens outside the room, we’re far more likely to recognise the opportunity and know whose name to mention.

Of course, simply becoming a member doesn’t guarantee referrals. Trust has to be built. People need to see how you operate, know that you’ll look after the people they send your way and feel confident putting their own reputation alongside yours.

You can’t be everywhere. But when you’ve done the work to build that know, like and trust factor, your reputation can be.

Would a few more businesspeople knowing when and why to mention your name be valuable?

Come and meet us at BNI Gateway. Send us a message or email [email protected].

Turns out there’s a lot more chemistry involved in cleaning exterior surfaces than most of us realised. 😳

This morning at BNI Gateway, James Brickell from Silky Oak Property Services presented "The Chemistry of Clean", and we may never look at a bottle of bleach quite the same way again.

And he really did take us into the chemistry behind clean. James explained pH levels, what some commonly used chemicals can do to different surfaces, what happens when certain products interact, and why understanding the products you’re working with matters so much. It was pretty reassuring to realise just how much knowledge sits behind the work James does. There’s a whole lot more to professional exterior cleaning than turning up with a pressure cleaner and squirting water around. 😂

Which made James’ approach to his own work even more interesting. He could use stronger concentrations and harsher products to get through some jobs faster. He chooses not to. He’d rather allow more time, use lower strength mixtures where appropriate, carefully manage runoff and use more environmentally responsible methods to get the result he wants without unnecessarily throwing harsh chemicals at a property.

There was a fair bit of “I had no idea” around the room this morning. And we love that.

One week we’re learning about commercial property. Another week it’s business, tax and resilience. Today we were learning which cleaning chemicals should absolutely never meet each other (or how to blow something up, still working out which😉).

You come for the business connections, but you end up with this incredible pool of knowledge around you as well. More importantly, you get to know the people behind the businesses. So when someone asks, “Do you know someone who can clean the exterior of my property?” we know a lot more than James’ phone number. We know how he thinks about the job and the standards he sets for his work. That’s what makes a referral mean something.

We also had a great reason to celebrate this morning, with Amy Landers from ALP Insurance Advisers Pty Ltd renewing her BNI Gateway membership. 🎉
Another year of relationships, referrals and Thursday mornings ahead. We’re very happy to have you continuing with us, Amy!

It was another great morning together, plenty of laughs, plenty of conversation and, as it turns out, a little chemistry lesson thrown in for good measure.
If Thursday mornings in your business could use more good people, new connections and the occasional unexpected lesson, come and visit us. Message the page for your invitation.

You really never know what you might learn… or who you might meet. And doesn't Nick from The Mini Farm Project look great sporting his new Mini Farm Coffee polo.

*THE CHEMISTRY OF CLEAN*

What actually goes into professionally cleaning the exterior of a property?
It’s a lot more than water and a pressure washer.

This Thursday, James Brickell from Silky Oak Property Services will be sharing The Chemistry of Clean, looking at why understanding chemicals is such an important part of getting exterior cleaning right.

Different surfaces, stains and contaminants require different products, concentrations and cleaning methods. Get that combination wrong and the result can be anything from a poor clean to damaged paintwork, marked surfaces, affected pets and plants or costly permanent damage.
James will give us a look behind the scenes at what he needs to know before the cleaning even starts, and why knowing what to use, how much to use and where to use it makes such a difference.

If you’re a property manager, real estate agent, body corporate professional, builder or trade, this is a great opportunity to learn more about exterior cleaning and meet someone you can confidently refer when your clients need it done properly.
