At the South African Funeral Industry Summit, Pay@ showed how financial inclusion works in the funeral insurance payments space.

Our Head of Sales explained: we bring payment options directly to underserved communities. Cash, card, digital โ€“you choose what works for you. And businesses get clarity on who's paying and how.

Better for customers. Better for business. ๐Ÿ’™

Namhla Gysman, Business Development Lead at Pay@, said it best: ""When fintech arrives with a great technology and zero context, it gets ignored. And rightly so."" ๐Ÿ’ฌ

The taxi industry is one example, but the same goes for informal retail, spaza shops, stokvels, and community-based services. These aren't broken systems. They're sophisticated economies built on trust, routine and relationships that go back way further than any app or dashboard.

Real financial inclusion doesn't mean replacing what already works. It means showing up where people are, understanding how money already moves, and building something that fits; not something that asks people to change their lives to suit a product.

That's the kind of payment infrastructure we're building at Pay@. ๐Ÿงก

We're at SAFIS 2026 today! ๐Ÿ‘‹

Jonathan de Matteis is on the panel, and Namhla Gysman and Naseema Khan are in the room, all talking about something close to our hearts: making payments easier and more accessible for every South African funeral policyholder.

Our COO Aart Jurriaanse puts it perfectly:

""As South African funeral policyholders increasingly embrace digital payment channels alongside traditional cash and retail options, fintechs and the funeral insurance industry must collectively combine efforts to advance financial inclusion by providing robust, secure payment systems that bring payment touchpoints ever closer to every policyholder.""
