The South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP) was proud to participate in the Facilities Maintenance Conference held in East London, where key discussions focused on facilities management, infrastructure maintenance, sustainability, innovation, skills development, and the future of the built environment.

As exhibitors, we showcased the role of professional quantity surveying in supporting sustainable infrastructure delivery and asset management. Our exhibition stand provided a valuable platform to engage with students, delegates, industry professionals, government representatives, and other stakeholders, fostering meaningful conversations about career opportunities, professional registration, and collaboration within the built environment sector.

Thank you to everyone who visited our stand and contributed to the insightful discussions. Together, we continue to strengthen the built environment through knowledge sharing, innovation, and professional excellence.

Building the Future of the Quantity Surveying Profession Together

The South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession extends its sincere appreciation to all Council Members, stakeholders, and strategic partners who joined us for the recent strategy session.

The session created an important platform for meaningful engagement around the role the Council continues to play in strengthening, protecting, and advancing the quantity surveying profession. Discussions explored key industry pain points, opportunities for improvement, and practical ways to build a more competent, future-ready profession.

Critical conversations also focused on:

-Supporting candidates and professionals through the registration journey,
-Identifying ways to better assist members,
-Protecting the integrity and standards of the profession,
-Strengthening collaboration within the built environment sector, and
-Shaping a curriculum that responds to the evolving demands of the future.

We also appreciate the valuable contribution of stakeholders who joined us in the spirit of strategic collaboration and shared growth. Their insights and participation continue to reinforce the importance of collective action in driving meaningful change within the profession.

The South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP), in partnership with CUT Free State, proudly invites researchers, academics, industry professionals, and students to submit abstracts for the 16th Annual International Research Conference taking place in Bloemfontein from 14–16 October 2026.

This conference serves as a platform for thought leadership, innovation, and meaningful dialogue within the built environment and quantity surveying profession. Authors are encouraged to submit a 300-word abstract including a clear title, author details, affiliations, contact information, and the relevant sub-theme.

🗓 Important Dates: • Abstract Submission Deadline: 30 May 2026
• Notification of Acceptance: 19 June 2026

A warm thank you to Mangosuthu University of Technology and the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure for inviting the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession to be part of the MUT – Public Works Sector (PWS) Student Chapter Launch held in Umlazi, Durban.

The event brought together students, professionals, industry stakeholders, and built environment organisations for an impactful day focused on empowering and developing the future leaders of the built environment sector. Through insightful engagements and knowledge-sharing sessions, students were exposed to valuable guidance on transitioning from student life into professional practice.

The programme highlighted important conversations around leadership development, professional growth, student capacity building, and the importance of active participation within the built environment industry. Sessions such as the Built Environment – From Students to Professional Life keynote address and discussions around developing leadership among young professionals created meaningful opportunities for students to gain industry insight and inspiration.

As SACQSP, we were honoured to engage with students who showed enthusiasm, curiosity, and passion for pursuing careers within Quantity Surveying and the broader built environment. It was encouraging to witness so many future professionals eager to learn more about professional registration, career pathways, and the role of professional councils in supporting industry excellence and transformation.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the organisers, speakers, staff, and students for the warm hospitality and successful ex*****on of this important initiative. Collaborative platforms such as these continue to play a vital role in bridging the gap between academia and industry while shaping the next generation of built environment professionals.
