Women’s Month and the MSWSA commemoration took us to Cape Town, where the Ombud Council joined the IFWLP Alumni Network for Canvas & Conversations with the young women of St. Michael’s Child and Youth Care Centre.

Alongside creativity and connection, we introduced the young women to the financial ombud system, helping them understand their rights and responsibilities as financial customers and where they can turn when things go wrong with their financial institutions.

Because financial empowerment is not only about managing money. It is also about knowing your rights, asking questions and knowing where to seek redress.

This Women’s Month, and during MSWSA, the Ombud Council partnered with the IFWLP Alumni Network and Olieven Development Association for a special afternoon of Canvas & Conversations with young women in Gauteng.

Through painting, laughter and meaningful conversations, we explored confidence, possibility and the women we are still becoming.

The day also created space to connect financial knowledge with empowerment, reminding young women that in addition to knowing your rights and responsibilities there should be an understanding about approaching the financial ombuds when things go wrong with financial products and services. This helps to improve confidence and trust in the financial sector.

Thank you to the IFWLP alumni, Olieven Development Association, Kyalami Art Academy and Gallery, and Ms Olivia Van de Linde for making the day so special.

The speakers have taken the stage at Unity Secondary School. Representatives from Ombud Council are sharing practical, honest guidance on decisions that will shape these learners’ futures. We are proud to be a part of this initiative.
