Who does what in South Africa's financial protection landscape?

National Treasury RSA sets the policy direction. The FSCA South Africa regulates the conduct of financial institutions. The Ombud Council exercises oversight over the ombud schemes — supporting efficiency, alignment and awareness across the system.

The ombud schemes themselves (the National Financial Ombud Scheme South Africa - NFO, the FAISOmbud, OPFA SA and the JSE Ombud) handle customer complaints. One coordinated system. One consumer-focused mandate.

On The Ombud Lens, Chief Ombud Leanne Jackson maps it out clearly. Watch episode 2 on Asset TV: https://bit.ly/3Sxue19

What if a complaint could do more than resolve a dispute?

In this clip from The Ombud Lens panel, Chief Ombud Leanne Jackson explains how complaints data is evolving into one of the most powerful early warning tools in the financial regulatory system. Patterns across complaint volumes can reveal product design flaws, misleading advice, financial literacy gaps, fraud trends and consumer vulnerabilities, before they cause widespread harm.

A complaint isn't just a case. It is a data point that shapes fairer markets.
