50 years ago, young South Africans changed the course of our history.

On 16 June 1976, they stood up for a future they could not yet see, but one they believed was worth fighting for.

This Youth Month, we asked young people across Sanlam Investments a question: What kind of South Africa do you want to see in the future?

We asked, because these are the young investment professionals in our business whose work creates real impact. From securing financial futures, to developing student housing, accessible healthcare facilities and more, they are creating a better South Africa, Africa and world.

Watch the video to hear their vision for South Africa's next chapter.

What’s driving currency markets right now?
Global markets recovered over the period, with equities posting gains and currencies responding to a softer US dollar and shifting interest-rate expectations.
Developed market currencies generally strengthened against the US dollar, with the Australian dollar and Norwegian krone leading gains, while emerging markets delivered a more mixed performance, reflecting differences in local policy settings and inflation dynamics.

Companies listen when investors speak up. Through shareholder voting, we push for real climate action, better governance and corporate accountability – these are all factors that deliver results that go beyond returns.

Here's why it matters:
✓ It shows strong investor endorsement of ambitious decarbonisation roadmaps.
✓ It reinforces that ESG must be integrated into core corporate strategy.

We don't just invest in companies. We engage with them. 🤝 What does that mean? It means having real, sometimes difficult conversations about the things that matter:

✓ Is executive pay fair?
✓ Does the board reflect the diversity of South Africa?
✓ Are companies ready for climate risks?
✓ Is leadership building for the future?

This is active ownership in action – transformation that leads to value beyond returns.

One of the most meaningful stories in our 2025 Responsible Investing Report centres on the people who keep South Africa running. Our nurses, teachers, police officers – the missing middle – are the backbone of our economy. Yet affordable, quality infrastructure often feels out of reach for them.

The Property Impact Fund was built to address this gap. It channels institutional capital into infrastructure our communities actually need: healthcare facilities, affordable housing, student accommodation and township retail spaces. Through our IOOT model (Invest, Own, Operate, Transfer), we manage these properties and – over time – offer rent-to-own opportunities to the people using them.

A nurse renting affordable housing today could own it tomorrow. A small business owner builds equity in the retail space they operate. That's how infrastructure becomes a pathway to generational wealth, not just a place to live or work.

This is what lies beyond returns when capital meets community need.
