Are you considering a Medicare Advantage plan? While these plans offer many benefits, here are 3 key factors you should evaluate before making your decision:

1️⃣ Copays & Cost-Sharing: Unlike Original Medicare paired with a Supplement plan (which may cover most out-of-pocket costs after deductibles), Advantage plans utilize copays or coinsurance when you see a doctor, visit a specialist, or undergo procedures.
2️⃣ Network Restrictions: Most plans operate within specific doctor and hospital networks (HMO/PPO). Note: Many plans now offer broader or regional/national networks, but it remains essential to check if your providers are in-network.
3️⃣ Annual Contract Terms: Medicare Advantage plan contracts run calendar-year to calendar-year. Benefits, copays, or covered drug lists (formularies) can change annually every January. Reviewing your coverage every October during the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) ensures your plan still aligns with your needs.

Navigating your Medicare choices doesn’t have to be complicated! Here is a simple breakdown of how Original Medicare works and the two primary ways to cover out-of-pocket costs:
🔹 Original Medicare (Parts A & B):
Part A covers hospital stays (typically $0 premium).
Part B covers medical services (standard 2026 premium is $202.90/month).
Together, Parts A & B cover roughly 80% of costs, leaving you responsible for the remaining 20%.
🔹 Option 1: Medicare Advantage (Part C)
Usually offers low or $0 monthly plan premiums.
Replaces Original Medicare with network-based coverage (HMO/PPO) and copays.
Features a Maximum Out-of-Pocket (MOOP) limit and typically includes built-in drug, dental, vision, and hearing coverage. (Some enrollees pair this with an optional hospital indemnity policy to help cover hospital copays).
🔹 Option 2: Medicare Supplement (Medigap Plan G)
Monthly premium varies by location and age (typically $160–$300/month).
Covers 100% of Medicare-approved gaps after an annual Part B deductible ($283 in 2026).
No network restrictions—see any provider nationwide that accepts Medicare.
Standalone Part D (prescription) and ancillary dental/vision plans are purchased separately.

Turning 65 or transitioning into retirement?

Medicare can feel overwhelming, but avoiding a few major landmines will save you thousands of dollars in unexpected medical bills.

Swipe through the graphics above to learn the 3 biggest Medicare mistakes seniors make every single day:

1️⃣ Assuming 80% coverage is enough (leaving that 20% gap uncapped is a huge financial risk).
2️⃣ Ignoring annual prescription updates (drug plans and formularies change every single year).
3️⃣ Chasing $0 premiums blindly (low premiums can come with tight network restrictions and higher co-pays).

Plan G vs. Plan N: Which one actually saves you more money?

Both Medicare Supplement Plan G and Plan N cover the 20% gap left by Original Medicare Parts A & B for hospital and medical expenses, but they handle out-of-pocket costs very differently.

Here are the 3 main differences to watch out for:

1️⃣ Doctor Copays: Plan N has up to a $20 copay per office visit.
2️⃣ Emergency Room: Plan N charges up to a $50 copay for ER visits.
3️⃣ Part B Excess Charges: Plan N does NOT cover Part B excess charges (up to 15% above Medicare-approved rates), whereas Plan G covers them 100% after your Part B deductible.

Is the monthly premium savings on Plan N worth the extra copays and risk of excess charges? Let us know your thoughts below!

Did you know that Original Medicare leaves a massive gap in your healthcare coverage?
When you turn 65, taking out Part A (Hospital) and Part B (Medical) is mandatory. But here is the catch: together, they only cover 80% of your bills. That remaining 20% has NO limit—meaning a major medical event could completely drain your hard-earned retirement savings.
To protect yourself, you have to close that gap. Fortunately, you have two great ways to do it:
1️⃣ Medicare Advantage (Part C): These plans typically have a $0 or very low monthly premium. They have prescription drug coverage built right in, and you simply pay fixed copays as you go.
2️⃣ Medicare Supplement (Medigap) + Standalone Part D: This option has a predictable monthly premium, but it virtually wipes away your out-of-pocket costs and gives you total freedom to see any doctor in the country who accepts Medicare.
Both strategies successfully protect you—but they work very differently depending on your budget and health goals.

If I was getting onto Medicare this year, I would NOT leave my healthcare up to chance—especially with the massive shifts happening in 2026.

Here is my exact, step-by-step blueprint to build the ultimate “Cadillac setup” for 100% peace of mind:

1️⃣ Secure Original Medicare: Start with Part A ($0/mo hospital coverage) and Part B ($202.90/mo medical coverage).
2️⃣ Bridge the 20% Gap: Original Medicare only pays 80%. I’d pair it with a Medicare Supplement Plan G (approx. $150/mo) to cap my exposure. After a one-time $283 deductible, I’m covered 100% with zero network restrictions.
3️⃣ Fill the Remaining Holes: Add a standalone Part D drug plan ($0–$15/mo) and a dedicated dental/vision/hearing policy (approx. $50/mo).

For around $350 a month, you get complete freedom, no network headaches, and total protection against unexpected medical bills.
