🌟 Meet Kenneth Cunningham, MOCPA’s Student of the Month, whose perspective on accounting took an unexpected turn during his junior year of high school. What started as an internship in a company’s finance department sparked a new interest in accounting and inspired him to pursue the CPA credential.

💬 Here’s what Kenneth shared about discovering his passion for accounting:

“I always thought accounting was the most pointless and boring field of business. I had no interest in pursuing a career in the field. In my Junior year of high school, I was offered the opportunity to work in the finance department of a company. When signing up for the company, I assumed I would have the opportunity to learn about finance, investments, and strategies to create cash flow. When I actually arrived at the job site and finished my first day, I realized I was doing accounting work and most of the employees in the department were CPA's or accountants and had backgrounds at accounting firms. Blown away by this discovery, I told my parents about what I found, and they told me to keep an open mind. I indeed kept an open mind, and by the end of the internship, I had a new mind towards accounting and was inspired to become a CPA.”

👏 Kenneth’s story is a great reminder that sometimes, all it takes is an opportunity to discover a career path you never expected!

MOCPA member Dr. Liz Diers and students from Truman State University recently visited Green City High School for a fun Destination CPA experience! 🙌

From sharing perspectives to exploring the possibilities of a CPA career, it was a great opportunity to spark curiosity and get students thinking about their futures.
