🚨 Life event? Hold that COBRA letter! 🚨

Only elect COBRA if you truly need it. You have 60 days to decide and compare all of your options!

đź’ˇ What this means for you:

Job loss or other qualifying event triggers a 60-day Special Enrollment Period for ACA marketplace plans.

COBRA gives you up to 60 days to elect, and coverage is retroactive to your loss-of-coverage date once you pay.

Because ACA subsidies can make marketplace plans far cheaper than full-price COBRA, many people are better off comparing ACA options first.

✅ Smart move: Don’t rush to elect COBRA unless you need continuity mid-treatment or with specific providers. Use the 60-day window to compare costs and networks, then decide.

Need help weighing COBRA vs. ACA after a job change? Message me or comment “COMPARE” and I’ll walk you through it. 💬

Open enrollment isn't the only time you can change your health insurance.

Life changes - like getting married, having a baby, moving to another county or state, changing jobs, or losing coverage - qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period. That means you could have a 30-60 day window to explore new coverage options.

In this week's episode, Lisa breaks down which events qualify and the steps to take right after one happens.

Group Health Plan or Medicare?

Should you delay Medicare when you’re still on an employer plan? In this episode, Lisa Martin speaks with “Medicare Mike” (Mike Markham) who explains how employer size—especially whether your workplace has fewer than 20 employees—can change who pays first, your risk for late enrollment penalties, and the best path for timing your Medicare enrollment.

You’ll also hear a practical checklist of questions to ask before age 65, including how your group plan affects Part B decisions, HSA contributions, family coverage, deductibles/out-of-pocket costs, provider networks, and IRMAA considerations—so you can make a confident, well-timed move.
