With E bikes becoming more and more popular it’s very important to remember that most homeowners insurance carriers do not cover electric bikes under your homeowners policy if they have a throttle. If they’re pedal assisted then your homeowners insurance should cover them, but if they have a twist or push throttle of any kind. Typically, they are excluded from coverage on home policies.

Insurance tip for the week!

If you call your Insurace carrier to ask about damage on your home until you are absolutely ready to file a claim.

Anytime you call your insurance carrier and ask about a potential claim. They are required by law to report that down as a claim. If you do not move forward with filing and getting paid out on a claim, you still will have a $0.00 dollar pay claim on your claims record for five years.

These used to not matter as much, but in the new insurance world, we are living in a lot of carriers will not take you on as a client if you have these on your record now, especially if it is in relation to water.

Also, one of the largest carriers in the industry, (SF), will actually nonrenew you as a client if you call them more than two times in five years, even if you don’t actually get paid out $1 dollar.
