Memory Lane: Saturday, June 13, 1998

One of my favorite memories from sports was going to Game 3 of the 1998 Stanley Cup Final in Washington, DC. I've been to many championship events since that evening. But you never forget your first one, ever.

Despite that Washington lost to Detroit 2-1 that night, that was the first taste of what it was like to see a game in the Stanley Cup Final. I'd been to NHL games before, but never a Stanley Cup Final game until that June evening in 1998.

I was able to go to Game 4 as well, were Detroit completed the series sweep and skated with the Stanley Cup at the MCI Center (now Capital One Arena).

Since that incredible evening, had a chance to make a few more Stanley Cup Final games including last Saturday night's Game 3 in Las Vegas.

Let's hope this is true and not bluster. Once this ordeal in Iran is over I expect the market to react and US10Y to start falling.

Hours earlier, Trump warned that the U.S. would attack Iran "VERY HARD TONIGHT," and soon take over Iran's oil infrastructure assets, including Kharg Island.

US10Y drops to 4.47% in the market, a good sign that is now under 4.50%. Reported there could be a deal in Iran which has sparked some market action. The lower the US10Y, the better the mortgage rates. Hopefully there will be a deal in Iran, opening the Strait of Hormuz.

But a good sign if the US10Y starts to show decline.

OMG. Brayden McNabb two seconds late on a +1600 payout for me for anytime goal scored. Hockey gods were unkind to me there. Damn, that hurt. Carolina takes a 3-1 lead to the first intermission in Game 4. But damn bro, McNabb was two seconds away from making this game 3-2 (puck was a second or two behind the horn).

But two more periods and maybe OT.

Would be a sweet win on the payout.

First Final game I've seen live since Game 2 of the 2007 series between Ottawa and Anaheim.

No disrespect to the previous four games that I had seen in the Cup Finals, but this one was the BEST game I have ever seen live in the NHL. Regular season or postseason, this one was off the charts and worth every second I went to Vegas this weekend.

Mitch Marner with a hat trick, Vegas had a 4-0 lead by the end of the second period. Oh, and could have been 6-0 if the first two goals were not waived off. But they were for a reason, so it was 4-0. Heading to the second intermission and into the third period, it appeared Vegas was on cruise control.

Then Carolina with 3 goals in 39 seconds. Yes, not even a minute, it went from 4-0 to 4-3. T-Mobile Arena went from rocking to dead silent. Oh, that last Carolina goal to make it 4-4 had some hearts pumping.

First time I ever saw a playoff game in the NHL head to OT live in person. Worth every second, in the end Vegas scores in 2OT to take a thrilling 5-4 win in Game 3 that will be talked about for ages. Golden Knights lead the series 2-1 and have a chance to seize command tomorrow night in Game 4.

Oh, if you ever want to see a legit pregame introduction then go to Vegas. Golden Knights without a doubt have the best pregame intro the NHL.

But man, Game 3. Will be forever etched in my mind and I can't see a game topping that one going forward when I am in the barn.

US10Y has surged to 4.54% in the market this morning, market conditions are volatile right now at the moment. Until this ordeal in Iran is resolved, expect a turbulent market. Mortgage rates are not falling, they are rising. If you are going to close, lock now. If you are closing in July, let's see what happens next week but we are going to have lock soon.

First and foremost, thank you to my girl Theresa for the amazing seats to this game.

Ohtani was dealing last night at Chase Field. Six strikeouts and allowing two hits in a dominant 7-0 win for Los Angeles. Yeah, I was pulling for the Snakes but there is a reason the Los Angeles Dodgers are two-time defending World Series champions.

Great team out in Los Angeles and if they stay healthy, they're not done winning.
