We’re happy to introduce the latest installment in our Historic Homes of Virginia series, featuring Patrick Henry’s Scotchtown!

Join Professor Michael Spencer and members of Preservation Virginia as they take us inside the Hanover County home where Patrick Henry lived, raised his family, and wrote notes for his famous “Give me liberty, or give me death!” speech.

We’ll explore original details of the house—from historic mouldings and pegged rafters to its massive chimney supports—and learn more about the enslaved people whose lives and labor were an important part of Scotchtown’s history.

You’ll also see how historic insurance policies from Mutual Assurance Society of Virginia became an invaluable resource in restoring and reconstructing Scotchtown and its grounds.
